Topic: Stoic Role Models, Ancient and Modern

The Stoics thought that one of the best ways to learn how to be virtuous is to model oneself after virtuous people. They had a gallery of real and imaginary role models. At this meetup we will discuss the concept of a Stoic role model, take a look at two examples (one ancient, Cato the Younger, on the right; one modern, Susan Fowler, on the left), and see what we can learn from them. Come prepared with a suggestion for your own role model!

The School is inspired by the ancient Greco-Roman schools of philosophy. We will examine the theory and practice of Stoicism as a modern applied philosophy that aids us in navigating a world in some ways just as confusing and uncertain as that of ancient Athens and Rome.

Meeting dates subject to change.
