Hooray for Friday — especially 3rd Fridays at The Café at Ethical, a welcoming place to unwind, relax, enjoy the music, refreshments, good company, and entertainment. Get up and dance if the music moves you! Or just sit back and enjoy.

“She is at once a seriously accomplished, skilled craftswoman at the piano with flawless technique and amazing powers of concentration, and also an extremely funny, witty, and engaging performer.”
-- Katie Agresta, legendary voice coach of Bon Jovi, Annie Lennox, Cyndi Lauper, Dave Matthews

“…I’m delighted to have found an artist with a deep love and respect for music. Abigail Lumsden’s jazz numbers, like ‘Doorway’, with its incredible scat vocal in combination with her virtuosity on the piano, impresses me the most.
--Pierre Ringwald, Co-host of Lauantaijatsit (Saturday Jazz, Helsinki Finland)

“I’ve never seen an audience quite so taken … a terrific performance!”
–George Rothman, conductor, Riverside Symphony Orchestra

Guest vocalist, pianist and violinist Abigail Lumsden and her husband and co-producer, pianist Les Horan are a multi-faceted musical duo whom you may have caught at Birdland, the Bitter End, or Symphony Space. Their landmark double album “Imagine Your Heart’s Journeys” features Lumsden’s captivating vocals and Horan’s intricate harmonies, on tunes from the Great American Songbook, contemporary popular classics and swing, unique renditions of the classical repertoire, and original compositions that transport the listener into her truly original jazzy world.

The Music Café at Ethical is curated by John Wilmeth and Steph Walker. Music Director pianist John Wilmeth is a multi-instrumentalist with experience in many genres. He has worked with the likes of Jerry Garcia, Boz Scaggs, Al Jarreau, James Moody, and Jon Hendricks. Emcee Steph Walker is a singer of many genres and a poet, and has performed at such popular jazz venues as Silvanas, Flute Bar, The Triad and The Metropolitan Room.

Tonight, The John Wilmeth Jazz Trio will include Dave Meade, renown drummer/percussionist. He has worked with a wide spectrum of artists and musicians, including Nancy Wilson, Keely Smith, and Tony award winning singers Leslie Uggams, Paulo Szot, and Diahann Carroll. Meade has toured with Aretha Franklin, The Mamas and the Papas, and the Arturo O’Farrill Afro Cuban Orchestra, to highlight a few. Back in the day, Dave played nightly at the world-famous Rainbow Room. Our guest bassist Ratzo Harris is a Thelonious Monk Competition semi-finalist who has worked with such musicians as Les Paul, Charles Lloyd, and Betty Carter. “Ratzo Harris plays bass that's living root and steel girder.” (blogcritics).
