Topic: How should we think about love?

Love is a fundamental aspect of human life. Yet, English has just one word to label a variety of different types of relationships that we engage in during our lives. We love our partner, our children, our profession, our nation, or our god. The ancient Greeks made distinctions among these different types of love, using different words, none of which, incidentally, map exactly to our modern conception of romantic love. Let’s discuss the philosophical and practical aspects of love, based on this summary of how the Greeks thought about it (http://tinyurl.com/ybfprl48).

Based on the principle of Socratic dialogue, every meeting has a simple theme (e.g., Should we be afraid of death? What are the ethics of eating?), introduced through a suggested reading with open discussions aimed at sharpening our thinking about the subject matter being examined during the session.
