Meet Michelle, Second in Our #EthicalHumans Campaign

By September 29, 2017May 20th, 2019No Comments

Meet Michelle Ainsworth, a transgender woman who “accidentally” discovered Ethical Culture in 1999. She joined Ethical NYC for the sense of community it provides her as well as for the opportunity to engage with social issues and share her story.

Michelle was recently featured in @newyorkermag in a piece, entitled “Portrait of a Couple in Love and in Transition”, which tells the story of Michelle and her partner Jennifer’s decision to undergo transition surgery. As someone who is going through the process of transitioning as well as supporting her partner through her transition, Michelle notes how important it is to recognize that everyone’s transition experience is different and as a supporter, you need to “learn how to listen to what is right for them.” While she used to feel trapped in her body, she now describes herself as “the oldest teenage girl you’ve ever met.” A former bookstore clerk, she is currently focusing on her writing and is hard at work on her first Young Adult novel.
