The talk will offer a glimpse of reality through the lens of creative changes and social innovation occurring today. The world is changing so quickly – in ways both hopeful and threatening. Yet, we rarely get the whole story.

Our ability to understand reality, and act thoughtfully to build a better world, has long been constrained by the “narrative of brokenness” given by the news, which presents the world through a lens of dysfunction and pathology. There is a better way to tell the story of our time — a movement in journalism that is gaining ground today.

David Bornstein is CEO and co-founder of the Solutions Journalism Network and co-author of the ‘Fixes’ column in The New York Times, which examines efforts to solve social problems. The Solutions Journalism Network is establishing the practice of solutions journalism — rigorous reporting that examines credible responses to social problems — as a core part of mainstream news. David has been a journalist for 28 years, having started his career working on the metro desk of New York Newsday. He is the author of three books: How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas, The Price of a Dream: The Story of the Grameen Bank, and Social Entrepreneurship: What Everyone Needs to Know.
