SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Sunday Platform - Intergenerational Spring Festival: Spring's Mindful Awakening
DESCRIPTION:Notice: Due to the coronavirus outbreak\, out of an abundance of caution this event has been cancelled. Please keep an eye on our website for updates about all future events. Thank you! \n*** \nThis inter-generational platform will nurture buds of justice and peace\, and cultivate the “inner-blossoming” of all people through rejuvenating communal experiences\, including story\, song\, and mindfulness\, both serious and playful. \nHosted by Leader Dr. Richard Koral and Youth and Family Programs Coordinator Audrey Kindred. \nThis week’s shared charity\, My Sister’s Place (MSP)\, provides a hotline\, a domestic violence shelter\, and most recently\, DC’s first Batterer-Intervention group. MSP offers a full continuum of care from emergency shelter through transition-to-permanent housing\, providing clinical counseling\, case management\, and comprehensive services to empower survivors to recover and thrive. MSP also provides training\, case consultation\, and advocacy to engage communities to\nprevent violence and abuse. \nPresider: Leader Dr. Richard Koral \nFREE and open to the public. \n\nSunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Ethical Culture philosophy. A collection basket is passed and money is shared between the Society and a charity selected for that day.  While contributions are always appreciated\, Sunday meetings are free and open to the public.  Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour. \nTo view previous Sunday Platform addresses and interviews\, visit the Ethical NYC YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:POSTPONED - Ethics and the Theater Encore: The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams
DESCRIPTION:NOTICE: Out of an abundance of caution\, due to the threat of COVID-19 this month’s Ethics and the Theater has been postponed. A new date will be announced soon. \nJoin Ethics and the Theater as members of the Society and theater professionals read selected plays before a live audience. Readings are followed by discussions of the ethical issues raised by the play. \nThis classic of the American theater\, which catapulted Williams to fame\, revolves around the Wingfield family: Tom\, an aspiring poet; his mother\, Amanda\, who dreams of her days as a debutante; and Laura\, his painfully shy sister\, who escapes into the world of her glass animal figurines. When Tom\, pressured by Amanda\, brings home a “gentleman caller” for Laura\, these illusions\, which make their lives bearable\, are suddenly threatened. \nNOTE: Due to the COVID-19 epidemic\, there will not be a pre-performance reception this month. \n$5 for members\, $10 for the public.
