DESCRIPTION:A unique outlier in many respects\, Ethical Culture has allied itself and been a home to many philosophical partners over the years\, including humanism\, free thought\, progressivism\, religious liberalism\, agnosticism\, atheism and so forth. Adherents to these belief systems have found a home because of Ethical Culture’s emphasis on deeds above creeds and its work towards many issues common to liberal and progressive agendas. Despite these similarities\, Ethical Culture is also radically different than these beliefs. Had Adler continued living into the present age\, how would he have applied the Ethical way of life to modern environmental and societal challenges? \nCurt Collier is the Interim Leader of the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County\, and has served as Leader of three other Societies during his nearly 20 years of service. Collier is also the National Youth Program Director for Groundwork USA\, an organization created by the National Park Service and the EPA to help raise the capacity of communities to deal with local environmental challenges. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Ethical Culture philosophy. A collection basket is passed and money is shared between the Society and a charity selected for that day.  While contributions are always appreciated\, Sunday meetings are free and open to the public.  Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour. \nTo view previous Sunday Platform addresses and interviews\, visit the Ethical NYC YouTube channel.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Month with a family-friendly hike in Van Cortland Park\, known for its vast forested area\, freshwater lake\, and many playgrounds. The hike will be followed by a Writefully Ours workshop on Earth Day reflections: “What’s your promise to Earth today?” \nAs we celebrate Earth Month\, springtime with pandemic safety is our priority. We will make outdoor field trips. Bring a notebook\, blankets to sit on\, and picnic lunches (with minimal trash).
