SUMMARY:Leader’s Roundtable: 'Paid Experts' and Police Exonerations (Hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:Bring your lunch and join Leader Dr. Nori Rost and members for an engaging round-table discussion on the issues of the day and recommended readings. \nAs we close out Black History month\, with our banner emphasizing #BlackLivesMatter\, these two articles look at how paid “expert advice” is used to exonerate police officers who have killed people of all races while in custody. What is the price of “paid experts?” When should they be allowed? \nThis week’s readings: \nExpert says cop was justified in pinning down George Floyd – ABC News (go.com) \nHow Paid Experts Help Exonerate Police After Deaths in Custody – The New York Times (nytimes.com) \nClick to join at start time | Zoom ID 861 1417 5760 | Passcode 347145 \nCOVID-19 NOTICE: Only fully-vaccinated Society members are invited to attend in-person. All others are invited to join us via Zoom. We hope to open up to the public again as soon as possible. \n\nYou can download Zoom at https://zoom.us/download\, although it’s not necessary to do ahead of time. Zoom is available for tablets and smartphones in both main app stores\, Apple and Google Android. Attendees don’t need to register for a Zoom account although it’s free and helpful. To join a meeting\, simply click the event’s invitation link above.
