DESCRIPTION:Speaking of Science returns on Zoom! The program will feature two twenty-minute talks followed by a Q&A. Society member Carol Portlock moderates. \nThis month\, our guests will explore the challenges and promises of technology in the field of dermatology\, focusing particularly on teledermatology and artificial intelligence. \nThis Month’s Speakers \nVeronica Rotemberg\, MD\, PhD is the director of dermatology imaging informatics at MSKCC. She has a biomedical engineering background\, and she is passionate about imaging and AI standards. Her research focuses on factors that impact AI performance in dermatology applications. In her free time\, she enjoys hiking and spending time with her children. \nAllison Gordon\, MD is a dermatologist at MSKCC\, where she oversees our teledermatology program. She is developing a centerwide dermatology e-consultation program to improve the triage\, diagnosis\, and management of acute and chronic dermatologic conditions. DESCRIPTION:This feminist proletarian novel tells the story of the friendship between two working-class wives\, Ellen and Sally. Set in the rural country and the industrial cities of Sweden during the 1920s\, the book follows the parallel development of Ellen and Sally. Martinson’s novel was intended as homage to all the unrelenting women who fight to overcome the brutality and loneliness of their lives\, and she suggests part of what keeps them going is an involuntary\, unconscious female solidarity. \nCOVID-19 Notice: At this time\, only fully-vaccinated Society members are invited to attend hybrid programming in person. All others are invited to join online via Zoom. \nAbout GLD \nLiterary works will be discussed based on what can be found in the text in order to enrich each other’s interpretation of the novel/novella. All are welcome to join and any edition or translation of the book under discussion can be used. Read the work in advance and be prepared to discuss the aspects of interest to you by referring to specific related text and reading it to the group.
