DESCRIPTION:In-person and online! Note: This program will begin at 11:30 in Adler Hall. \nHosted by Leader Dr. Nori Rost! \nHumans can operate as a collaborative force with nature\, as Nature. \nWe are a powerful force\, and we can put our powers to good use rather than—intentionally or not—for destructive purposes. We are wonderful plants that can continue to grow and blossom for the good. \nThis year’s festival is part of a global celebration of the “Season for Nonviolence” that honors and celebrates the peaceful work of Mahatama (Mohandas) Gandhi and Martin Luther King\, Jr. — established in 1998 by Ayun Gandhi\, Mahatama Gandhi’s grandson. Preparing for the Spring Festival has been part of the learning experience of our Young Ethical Explorers (YEE) as they’ve studied aspects of this Season for Nonviolence\, which began January 30 and culminates on April 4. \nToday Ethical children\, families\, and members lead us in an exploration of healthy ways to grow into the future. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Ethical Culture philosophy. DESCRIPTION:Our friends at the Puffin Cultural Forum have announced the Puffin Interview Series with our own Leader Dr. Joe Chuman! \nOn the first Sunday of every month Dr. Chuman will delve into and explore the work of renowned authors through meaningful dialogue in an intimate interview format\, all streamed live on Youtube. There will be an opportunity for audiences to ask their own questions during a Q&A session. \nThis month: Dr. Arthur Dobrin \nThe Puffin Interview Series holds their first in-person interview with our very own Dr. Joe Chuman and Dr. Arthur Dobrin\, Leader Emeritus of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island and the author of This Red Land\, a work that captures two worlds: Kenya and in the United States of America. The book deals with many of the issues affecting these two countries in the 1980’s and 1990’s. There is Sungusungu in Kisii\, Junius George’s murder trial and death. The tribal killings in Kenya in 1992\, witchcraft as presented in Kisii\, the Tomkins park riot in which Kwamboka is involved in and many more events are real. He is the recipient of Hofstra University’s Scholar’s Incentive Award\, Hofstra University\, Allison Kim Levy Continuing Acts of Kindness Memorial Award of the Psychology Department\, and the Peter E. Herman Award\, for creative work in the literary arts. He is also Leader Emeritus of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island. Read more. \nAbout Leader Dr. Joe Chuman \nJoe Chuman recently retired as the Leader of the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County\, a community he served beginning in 1974. Since 2008\, he has been a part-time Leader of the New York Society for Ethical Culture. He currently teaches on human rights at Columbia University and Hunter College\, and has taught at the United Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica. His works have been published in the New York Times\, The Humanist\, Free Inquiry\, Humanistic Judaism\, and many other periodicals.
