DESCRIPTION:In-person and online! \nThis month marks the 10th anniversary of the horrific mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown\, CT. During that rampage the 20 year old gunman shot and killed 26 people\, including 20 children between 6-7 years old. In June\, 2015\, Daily Mail journalist\, Dan Hodges\, tweeted\, “In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US Gun Control Debate. Once  America decided killing children was bearable\, it was over.” As we mark this somber occasion\, it appears his comments are true. But we cannot let this conversation be over. Dr. Rost will explores what does our Ethical Culture commitment call us to do to end gun violence in our communities? How can we ensure we’ve done all we can to keep our families safe while honoring the second amendment of our Constitution? \n“I believe that the tragedy started with an angry thought in Adam Lanza’s head. I said\, ‘By doing that\, you will positively impact yourself\, those around you and through the ripple effect\, you will make this a more peaceful and loving world.” -Scarlett Lewis\, mother of 6 year old Sandy Hook victim\, Jesse \nAbout Leader Dr. Nori Rost \nDr. Nori Rost is the acting Leader of the New York Society for Ethical Culture. Prior to that\, she served as the settled minister of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Colorado Springs\, CO for 13 years. She previously was a minister in Metropolitan Community Churches (a queer Christian denomination) for 20 years before outgrowing the Christian faith. \nShe is passionate about social justice and has been involved in social rights activism since she was 17. She is an outspoken advocate for justice and equity and has received numerous awards and recognition for her work. \nNori holds a Master of Divinity from Iliff School of Theology in Denver\, Colorado\, and a Doctor of Ministry from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge\, Massachusetts. In addition\, she holds a Certificate for Spiritual Direction from the Benet Hill Center in Colorado Springs\, Colorado and is also a Certified Life Mastery Consultant with Brave Thinking Institute. \nNotice: Only fully-vaccinated individuals are invited to attend in-person at this time.
