DESCRIPTION:In-person and online — Learn how you too can be a Good Neighbor! \nFred Rogers had it right when he sang that last line of his Mister Roger’s Neighborhood song\, asking his viewers to extend a hand to one another as neighbors. \nThe Social Service Board of the New York Society for Ethical Culture is proud to introduce our Good Neighbors Initiative\, partnering with Residents Associations to bring programs and services to our neighbors in NYCHA’s Amsterdam Houses\, Amsterdam Extension\, and Harborview Terrace. Our goal is to help our neighbors and fulfill our longstanding mission to “build listening relationships to develop responsive programs that alleviate the symptoms of systemic injustice to promote a more compassionate city.” \nThis Sunday Platform will share the high points of the Ethical Society’s 140-plus years of social service since our founding by Dr. Felix Adler\, an inheritance of ethical action we aim to carry forward. We’ll also detail how you can become a good neighbor yourself by getting involved with the Social Service Board’s Good Neighbors Initiative\, My Own Book Fund\, and Women’s Shelter. \nCome discover the highlights of the Social Service Board’s 2022 programs and learn how you can volunteer or support our initiatives throughout 2023. \nJanet Rose\, Chair of the Social Service Board\, has been a member of the New York Society for Ethical Culture for over five years.  She was instrumental in the phenomenal success of the Reclaim Our Vote Campaigns\, which addressed voter suppression in high suppression states.  Additionally\, Janet and her husband Howard Rose created the Food Insecurity Initiative\, which has collected and distributed almost 20 tons of food to the food insecure for the past 3 years. \nNotice: Only fully-vaccinated individuals are invited to attend in-person at this time. Sunday meetings begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Humanist philosophy. For more information about our youth and family programming\, please visit www.ethical.nyc/youth. \n\nYoung Ethical Explorers is our Humanist Sunday school\, designed for youngsters from ages 4 to 13\, and takes place concurrent with our Sunday Platform meetings. Sessions raise issues of personal identity and integrity\, appreciation and respect for others\, and knowledge of religions\, philosophies\, and social concerns. Topics are explored in an age-appropriate way through discussion\, storytelling\, dramatization\, music\, art\, games\, and field trips. \nRSVP is essential to guarantee your place and for planning purposes.
