DESCRIPTION:Civics education has been languishing for years. A recent Annenberg Public Policy survey found that only 26 percent of Americans can name all three branches of government. How does New York City ensure the next generation learns about the role and importance of government in their lives. Our speakers will discuss some recent actions that NYC is taking to reintroduce civics education and engagement.\n\nSpeakers: \nJenna Ryall\, Director of Civics for All at the New York City Department of Education \nJenna Ryall co-designed the Civics for All initiative\, a comprehensive K–12 civic education program available to all NYCDOE schools. Ms. Ryall holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Fordham University and a Master’s degree and Post-Master’s Certificate from Stony Brook University. \nSanda Balaban\, Co-Founder/Director\, YVote and Next Generation Politics \nSanda Balaban has held leadership roles in education and youth development for over 25 years.
