SUMMARY:Leader’s Lunchtime Roundtable: Parental Rights or Property Rights? You Decide. (Hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:Bring your lunch and join Leader Dr. Nori Rost and members for an engaging round-table discussion on the issues of the day and recommended readings. \nMuch has been made of newly back in vogue “parental rights” movement that is enjoying popularity in states such as Florida\, Arkansas\, and South Dakota. This shows up as anti-trans legislation\, rolling back protections in child labor laws\, and avowing that hungry children are not the concern of the state but a result of bad parenting. How should we ethically respond? \nGovernor Ron DeSantis Signs Historic Bill to Protect Parental Rights in Education (flgov.com) \nChildren Are Not Property (nymag.com) (Full disclosure and not just to name-drop\, this op-ed was written by non other than Sarah Jones\, ace reporter and wife of our own Ed Beck. For extra credit\, read this vitriolic response by the Post: NY Mag op-ed blasting parental rights movement sparks fury (nypost.com)) \nFree and open to the public!\nCOVID-19 NOTICE: Masks are optional but strongly encouraged. \nClick to join at start time | Zoom ID 861 1417 5760 | Passcode 347145
