DESCRIPTION:In-person and online! \nSteven Hoffen\, a high school teen from NYC\, was inspired to action following a visit to Sindyanna of Galilee\, a non-profit agricultural organization in Israel where Arab and Jewish women work together closely to cultivate social change. His film\, “Growing Peace in the Middle East” has won awards for best short documentary by capturing the power of cooperation to combat food insecurity while empowering women with meaningful\, skilled work. We’ll view the short film followed by an interview with this amazing young man as he describes his journey to activism\, his current work as founder of Growing Peace using hydroponics to support local organizations\, and how his experience has impacted his life and relationships. \nCOVID-19 Notice: Vaccination required. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a FREE special theatrical presentation by students from the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University!  \nTwelve first-year medical students will be presenting 10-minute plays they developed in their Narrative Medicine elective course taught by narrative medicine faculty playwright Catherine Rogers\, MFA\, MS and guest lecturer theatre director Avra Sidiropoulou\, PhD. \nIn this class\, students explore ethics and empathy through the eyes of the characters they create. For students\, creating characters for their plays helps them step into the shoes of others\, as they will be expected to step into the shoes of their future patients. They also learn the skills of teamwork while responding to and acting in each other’s plays. \nRSVPs kindly requested.
