She began her working career as a union carpenter and transitioned into worker education through the union’s apprenticeship program and the construction industry. Using a sector approach for understanding industries and businesses and their employment needs\, she has remained dedicated to inclusive community economic development. \nShe was a founding member of the worker-owned cooperative\, New Deal Home Improvement Company and City Roots Contractors Guild. Rebecca has collaborated on numerous initiatives in NYC\, including pre-apprenticeship programs\, a Bronx green jobs network\, a kitchen business incubator and the design of Best for NYC\, the Astoria Workers Project and Brooklyn Communities Collaborative. She serves as an advisor to the NYC Economic Development Corporation for Offshore Wind and the NYC Employment and Training Coalition. She was a founding member of the board of the Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative\, is on the board of the Democracy at Work Institute and serves on the executive committee of the Union Coop Council/US Federation of Worker Coops. \nShe is Trustee Emerita with the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture. Rebecca holds a Masters in Organizational Change Management from The New School\, a certificate in Adult Occupational Education from CUNY and is certified in Permaculture Urban Design. She is a native New Yorker raised by a fervent activist with the DNA and tireless passion for social justice. \nMonthly Collection\nClimate Families NYC \nAbout Sunday Platform\nSunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Humanist philosophy. DESCRIPTION:Newcomers are always welcome! \nIn honor of Labor Day\, we’ll gather to honor “the work of childhood”–play!–followed by a reflection circle. \nHow to Join\nTo join\, please RSVP to Youth Programs Director Audrey Kindred at ethicalfamilies@nysec.org. For more information about our youth and family programming\, please visit ethical.nyc/youth. \nAbout Young Ethical Explorers\nYEE is our Humanist Sunday school\, designed for youngsters from ages 4 to 13\, and takes place concurrent with our Sunday Platform meetings. Sessions raise issues of personal identity and integrity\, appreciation and respect for others\, and knowledge of religions\, philosophies\, and social concerns. Topics are explored in an age-appropriate way through discussion\, storytelling\, dramatization\, music\, art\, games\, and field trips. \nRSVP is essential to guarantee your place and for planning purposes.
