DESCRIPTION:Community Justice is a growing framework within criminal justice reform that aims to improve the quality of life for community members both by reducing crime and by reducing the use of incarceration. But how can a government-controlled justice system truly engage with everyday residents in a meaningful way? This conversation will explore personal experiences in different community environments\, the nuts and bolts of community justice in action\, and how to apply the principles of community justice to more meaningfully engage your own neighbors. \nCommunity lunch follows! \nAbout Lindsey Price Jackson\nLindsey Price Jackson\, JD\, MPA\, is the Associate Director of Community Justice at the Center for Justice Innovation. With this team\, she trains and consults with jurisdictions nationally and internationally. Before joining the Center\, Jackson conducted research and consulting projects with United Nations University’s Delta 8.7 project on human trafficking\, with Arnold Venture’s Pretrial Justice Initiative on prosecutorial discretion and on reform prosecutors nationwide\, and worked with the Vera Institute of Justice. Jackson began her career as a public defender at the Defender Association of Philadelphia\, including volunteering in the problem-solving Project Dawn Court for women with criminal histories of drug and prostitution offences. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Humanist philosophy. DESCRIPTION:Newcomers are always welcome! \nEvery other week we’re joined by Gabriella Belfiglio\, a long-time anti-bullying and self-defense teacher (and award-winning poet!) who will lead children in becoming empowered to express themselves and resolve conflicts with confidence and compassion–to become ‘upstanders’ not merely bystanders. \nChildren will learn how to stand up for themselves and others\, and gain resilience through skill-focused exercises and explorations led by Gabriella. This will be joyful and fun\, but will empower children with essential tools to face difficult moments\, hurt feelings\, and challenging peer pressures at school\, on the playground\, and beyond. \nFREE!
