SUMMARY:Reclaim Our Vote Postcard Writing Gathering: Get Out the Vote for Virginia's Primaries!
DESCRIPTION:Drinks and Snacks Provided! \nFighting for democracy is more challenging than ever\, and directly engaging voters is crucial to protecting and expanding it. \nBring a friend to our next Reclaim Our Vote postcard writing gathering and do your part! Since 2017 our team has prepared postcards to help tens of thousands of voters learn about how and where to vote–and how to beat any suppression in their states. \nNext up: Virginia’s state primaries for Governor\, Lieutenant Governor\, Attorney General\, House of Delegates\, and State Senate. Virginia’s off-year elections are often considered a bellwether for upcoming federal elections! \nIn partnership with Reclaim Our Vote creator Center for Common Ground\, postcards created at this gathering will be mailed to targeted lists of Black voters in select Virginia districts in April and May\, ensuring they arrive before primary early voting begins. \nCan’t Make This Gathering? You Can Still Help!\nSimply email Social Service Board chair Janet Rose at rov.nysec@gmail.com to place an order for postcard supplies in multiples of 20. Supply packets can be picked up at the Society during this event\, or Monday-Thursday\, 10am-4pm. \nPackets include your requested quantity of postcards\, labels\, addresses\, and instructions. Packets cost .60 per postcard with stamps\, or .10 per postcard without stamps. Payment info will be sent to you when you request the packet. \nThank you for whatever support you can give! \nRSVP\nPlease RSVP to rov.nysec@gmail.com if you plan to attend one or both gatherings.

SUMMARY:Fight for Our Rights: Free Mahmoud! w/ People's Forum
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, March 22nd\, for a powerful event in support of Mahmoud Khalil\, Palestine\, and civil liberties. Together we will defend free speech and reaffirm our collective commitment to ending the genocide of the Palestinian people. \nHear from prominent activists\, artists\, human rights advocates\, and members of Mahmoud Khalil’s legal team as we stand together against repression and strengthen our movement for a free Palestine. \nOn the evening of March 8th\, plainclothes agents with the Department of Homeland Security illegally arrested Mahmoud Khalil\, a leading activist at Columbia University\, at his home\, asserting that they were revoking his Green Card. At the time of the writing of this letter\, he remains in ICE custody. \nThis is an unprecedented action that signals the dawn of a new wave of attacks on both the Palestine solidarity movement and our civil liberties. \nSince Mahmoud’s arrest\, tens of thousands have taken to the streets and over three million have signed a petition demanding his release. Meanwhile\, the Trump administration has continued its assault on our students. At Columbia University\, over two dozen students were suspended\, expelled\, or have had their degrees revoked over their support for Palestine and just last night the Department of Homeland Security raided the dorm rooms of two other student activists. \nIt is no coincidence that the escalation of attacks on the Pro-Palestine movement is happening right now. Since March 2nd\, Israel has blocked all humanitarian aid into Gaza and since March 12 has completely shut off electricity\, causing a total blackout throughout all of Gaza. Hunger is growing\, water is running out\, hospitals are not functional\, and all of Gaza sits in darkness. \nWe have a duty to fight against genocide and the stakes have never been so high. \nJoin us to discuss Mahmoud’s case and the impact it has on Free Speech\, the assault on our students\, and the current state of affairs in Palestine. \nDoors at 8:00pm \nRSVP\nRSVP with a $20 Donation to the Middle Eastern Children’s Alliance. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Email info@peoplesforum.org for support with donation costs. \nRSVP on Eventbrite Here
