And has recorded with his own groups and with a virtual “who’s who” of the music industry. Michael was nominated for a 2013 Grammy Award for “Best Instrumental Arrangement” for his “Afro-Latin Ellington Suite.” Michael has composed and arranged music for the films “Bossa Nova” and “Chico and Rita\,” which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2012. His ballet “Beneath the Mask” was performed by Jon Faddis and the Chicago Jazz Orchestra with the Deeply Rooted Dance Company (choreographed by Mayte Vicens.) His ballet\, La Cova do Rey Cintolo was premiered in 2010 in Mondoñedo\, Spain. \nMr. Mossman has conducted the Bilbao Symphonic Orchestra in Spain\, and has composed and arranged scores for the Philadelphia Orchestra\, the Louisiana Philharmonic\, the Tri-Cities Symphony\, Joe Henderson’s Grammy winning Big Band album\, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra\, the Count Basie Orchestra\, The Charles Mingus Orchestra\, Tito Puente\, Mario Bauza\, Slide Hampton and the Jazz Masters Orchestra\, Paquito D’Rivera\, the UMO Orchestra of Finland\, the NDR Big Band of Hamburg\, WDR of Cologne\, HR Bigband of Frankfurt\, HGM Bigband of Zagreb\, Danish Radio Big Band\, the Andalucia Latin Jazz Big Band\, Heineken Jazz Festival Orchestra in Puerto Rico\, Granada Bigband\, Sedajazz Latin Jazz Ensemble\, and Ray Barretto’s New World Spirit. Read Michael’s full bio here. \nPeter Greco is a New York based drummer has been involved in all areas of the local music scene and drum education for over 30 years. A Modern Drummer Magazine educational video contributor\, endorsed and sponsored by drum companies such as Vic Firth\, Sabian\, Kickport & Hudson Music Video\, Peter performs in drum clinics passing on his knowledge and passion for drumming to many an eager audience. Settings you may see him in would be the backing of shows and concerts such as Joe Piscopo\, Sal ‘The Voice’ Valentinetti and others in his position as drummer for the 18 piece NMJB jazz band. In addition to a busy performance schedule\, Peter has a state-of-the-art multimedia drum studio where he teaches\, writes drum books and records instructional videos in an effort to offer the finest in drum lessons and drum education. \nJerry McDonald is a native LI/NYC bassist who performs on both the upright bass and electric bass. After being introduced to the great Jazz-Fusion bassist Jaco Pastorius\, Jerry’s desire to study the tradition of Jazz Music was born. His musical journey\, however\, has led to many noteworthy performances in both Jazz and Rock genres. Jerry has had the opportunity to perform with Carl Allen\, Dan Faulk\, Rufus Reid Bass Quartet\, Earl Williams\, Tim Siciliano\, Mark Marino\, Tim Regusis\, Steve Salerno\, Ron Affif\, Swingset Quartet\, Jack Licitra\, and The Al Miller Big Band. He has also toured with vocalist Anastasia Renee and her Quartet in Russia\, as well as with Beledo Accoustic Trio in Puerto Rico. He’s played electric bass for Soul Revival\, a funk R&B Band\, performing at many clubs and events throughout the New York tri-state area and northeastern United States. \nPianist Stu Waters is an accomplished pianist and vocalist\, classically trained in piano at the Juilliard Prep School. DESCRIPTION:Jazz Cafe returns with acclaimed jazz singer Marion Cowings and guests! \nMusicians\nJazz singer Marion Cowings is a native New Yorker and master of scat and vocal technique. Marion attended Music and Art\, now known as LaGuardia High School\, where he was chosen to perform as a solo vocalist with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. \nWhile still in high school Cowings’ first professional engagement was at the Randall’s Island Jazz Festival with “Little Pony” Poindextor and the Ike Isaac’s Trio. During this time Marion began to understudy with Jon Hendricks\, Dave Lambert and Ross. Eventually Marion became Lambert’s original replacement and was then mentored by Jon Hendricks. \nIn 1984\, after leading rhythm & blues and rock bands\, Cowings teamed up with jazz vocalist Kim Kalesti. Together they performed hundreds of concerts and recorded several albums. They also founded the Vocal Jazz Department at New York University and were adjunct professors for eleven years. Marion’s smooth baritone voice and considerable range have been delighting audiences around the world for decades. He has performed at the Lincoln Center\, Kennedy Center\, Blue Note\, Village Vanguard and many prestigious venues abroad. He is also the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant and Clio Award. \nStu Waters is an accomplished pianist and vocalist\, classically trained in piano at the Juilliard Prep School. He has a bachelor’s degree in music performance from the Aaron Copeland Conservatory at Queens College. Currently\, at Lehigh University\, Charley is the Lower Brass Artist Affiliate Instructor and continues to play and record with the Ed Palermo Big Band and Dave Chamberlain’s The Band of Bones. \nCharley toured extensively with Blood Sweat and Tears and played with the Duke Ellington Orchestra\, Toshiko Akiyoshi\, Maria Schneider and Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestras and many other bands led by Andrew Hill\, Ted Nash\, Tim Ries\, Robin Eubanks\, Chuck Mangione\, and Stevie Wonder. \nCharley has performed for years on many Broadway shows\, most notably Ragtime\, Curtains\, The Scottsboro Boys and Disaster the Musical. For the last 20 years\, Charley has been serving as a music coordinator for Westbury Music Fair and for multiple Broadway Cares shows and benefits. \nRay Marchica is one of the most diverse drummers in New York City. He is a graduate of Brooklyn College where he studied percussion with Morris Lang He was the drummer for The Rosie O’Donnell TV show\, The Radio City Music Hall Orchestra\, and Many Broadway productions. He has recorded with James Brown\, Little Richard\, Dan Hartman\, Earl Klugh\, Roy Buchanan\, Rodney Jones\, Tony Purrone\, Mike Longo\, and Barbara Streisand. \nRay has accompanied Bernadette Peters\, Betty Buckley\, Tommy Tune\, Joel Grey\, Michael Feinstein\, Leslie Uggams\, Shirley Bassey\, James Naughton\, Jimmy Webb\, Keely Smith and Marilyn Maye. \nHe is a member of The Ed Palermo Big Band and has recorded ten albums with the group. Started playing bass and guitar at age 11. At age 15 he worked with a professional regional backup band for the Drifters. After a short stint at Suffolk Community College for music theory he immersed himself in music working with several Funk\, Reggae\, Rock\, and Progressive Jazz bands based out of Long Island. He has worked backing up Legendary Reggae artists The Melodians and Meditations and landed tours with recording artists Jr. Jazz and Moja Nya. In addition\, he has worked with opening acts for Third World and Steel Pulse. Covering many different genres Wayne has put together and secured jobs with opening acts for Aretha Franklin\, Luther Vandross\, Boys to Men\, Kansas and Yes. Wayne believes in the spiritually healing power music holds. “The gift of music shared is truly a blessing for the artist and listener. Music is a pathway to peace…” \nKimberly “La” Hart is a talented soulful vocalist who began singing at the age of 5 with a foundation in church music. Her musical influences include Whitney Houston\, Sade\, Erykah Badu and HER\, just to name a few. Her goal as an artist is to elevate the hearts and warm the souls of listeners with her smooth\, soulfully authentic sound. She performs regularly at private events\, restaurants\, and night clubs. The native Long Islander co-wrote her 1st Album “The Horizon” by Cosmic Chapter\, which is available on all platforms and is currently working on her 2nd album. She also sings backgrounds on the Dirty Boots album “That’s Life”. \nKirk Roth is an exceptionally gifted Guitarist born in 1977. He Studied trumpet from the age of 10 and has been playing Guitar for 30 years. He has studied guitar with Joe Monk Greg Boubalinski and Peter Rogine among others fine tuning his craft. Kirk has been a professional freelance musician since 1995. After receiving a BA in Music Ed and a Masters in music theory/music education from 5 Towns College he’s been working as a Public school music Teacher since 2001. In addition\, Kirk has been giving private instruction in trumpet/guitar/bass since 1997. \nDrummer/Vocalist Matt Keeler has performed with-in The Boston and Greater New York City area with: Blues Guitarist Ronnie Earl\, The Hudson River Rats with Rob Paparazzi\, The Nelson Riddle Big Band and Jazz guitarist Joe Beck. Matt has also recorded with Roseanne Cash (Rules of Travel) and the Joe Beck/Lou Marini quartet (Joe Back and Lou Marinin live in Biel\, Switzerland). Matt currently works with Jazz guitarist George Lesiw\, Zydeco band Otis and the Hurricanes\, and Dirty Boots. \nPianist Stu Waters is an accomplished pianist and vocalist\, classically trained in piano at the Juilliard Prep School. Stuart started performing professionally at age 13 when he became involved in jazz and blues. At age 15\, he was featured as a rising star on WQXR Radio’s “Young America Plays”. And has recorded with his own groups and with a virtual “who’s who” of the music industry. Michael was nominated for a 2013 Grammy Award for “Best Instrumental Arrangement” for his “Afro-Latin Ellington Suite.” Michael has composed and arranged music for the films “Bossa Nova” and “Chico and Rita\,” which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2012. She received a B.A. degree from the SUNY College at Old Westbury studying with Ken (Makanda) McIntyre\, Richard Harper\, James “Jabbo” Ware and Warren Smith. Her featured recordings include her CD debut\, “Lullabye” (tribute to godmother\, Billie Holiday)\, a duo project with her father\, pianist\, composer Mal Waldron (“He’s My Father”) and “Always There” which\, in addition to being her first U.S. release\, was licensed by Columbia Records (Japan) and voted one of the Top 20 Jazz CDs of 2006 by JazzUSA.  \nSTEVE SALERNO (guitar) is an active performer of Jazz and Classical music.  He has performed throughout Europe\, China\, Malaysia\, Puerto Rico\, Canada\, Cuba\, Russia and the United States.  He is a member of the Ray Anderson Organic Quartet (with Gary Versace and Tommy Campbell)\, Paul Smoker 4-Tet (with Drew Gress and Phil Haynes)\, Mala Waldron Quartet (with Miriam Sullivan and Michael T.A. Thompson)\, Blue Pipa Trio (with Dean Johnson) and leads a variety of groups\, including his Jazz quartet\, Exiles. \nHe has performed with many of today’s top musicians including Jaco Pastorius\, John Abercrombie\, Regina Carter\, Mark Dresser and Peter Erskine.  Among his latest recordings are Ray Anderson’s Being The Point\, Mala Waldron’s Always There\, Paul Smoker’s Cool Lives\, and Min Xiao-Fen’s Blue Pipa. He was music director for the PBS special Shoreline Sonata\, which first aired in May\, 2009. \nHe is the author of Planet Wave’s Chord Master (an 8\,000 chord voicing dictionary)\, which was recently voted the number one music application for Apple’s iPhone\, and is on the musician’s advisory board for D’Addario Strings. \nMARCUS MCLAURINE was born in Omaha\, Nebraska. He  studied music at the University of Nebraska before moving to Los Angeles. He was a member of Horace Tapscott’s Union of God’s Musicians and Artists Ascension for part of the 1970s. He later joined the military in 1976 where he played in the 590th Air Force band. After four years\, he left the air force and moved to New York City. McLaurine began a long association with Clark Terry in the early 1980s\, recording together numerous times. McLaurine recorded several albums under the leadership of pianist Abdullah Ibrahim in the 1990s\, and has been an instructor in jazz at William Paterson University since 1997.  He is a member of the band\, Native Soul\, with Steve Johns\, Noah Haidu\, and Peter Brainin. The group has released several CDs including: Rough Jazz (2006)\, Soul Step (2011)\, and One Mind (2012). \nLUCIANNA PADMORE Bronx native drummer Lucianna Padmore has been praised by Modern Drummer magazine for her “Deep grooves and serious fusion chops.” Lucianna is an alumnus of LaGuardia High School as well as New School University. Miss Padmore plays in the rock fusion band Stratospheerius with electric violinist Joe Deninzon\, appearing on their last two CD’s\,”Live Wires”\, “Headspace”\, and “The Next World”. She also plays with the Primordial Jazz Funktet\, and on their current album\, “We are Here”. After being introduced to the great Jazz-Fusion bassist Jaco Pastorius\, Jerry’s desire to study the tradition of Jazz Music was born. His musical journey\, however\, has led to many noteworthy performances in both Jazz and Rock genres. Jerry has had the opportunity to perform with Carl Allen\, Dan Faulk\, Rufus Reid Bass Quartet\, Earl Williams\, Tim Siciliano\, Mark Marino\, Tim Regusis\, Steve Salerno\, Ron Affif\, Swingset Quartet\, Jack Licitra\, and The Al Miller Big Band. He has also toured with vocalist Anastasia Renee and her Quartet in Russia\, as well as with Beledo Accoustic Trio in Puerto Rico. He’s played electric bass for Soul Revival\, a funk R&B Band\, performing at many clubs and events throughout the New York tri-state area and northeastern United States. \nStu Waters – Piano \nStu is an accomplished pianist and vocalist\, classically trained in piano at the Juilliard Prep School. Stuart started performing professionally at age 13 when he became involved in jazz and blues. At age 15\, he was featured as a rising star on WQXR Radio’s “Young America Plays”. He has performed throughout the United States\, and his performance and studio credits include projects with Joe Carbone\, Joe Carter\, Paula Atherton\, Earl Williams\, Walter Perkins\, James Cammack\, Chasey Dean and Rose Gunter. \nPeter Greco – Drums \nPeter Greco – a New York based drummer has been involved in all areas of the local music scene and drum education for over 30 years. A Modern Drummer Magazine educational video contributor\, endorsed and sponsored by drum companies such as Vic Firth\, Sabian\, Kickport & Hudson Music Video\, Peter performs in drum clinics passing on his knowledge and passion for drumming to many an eager audience. Open mic follows! \nClick here to purchase tickets on Eventbrite! \nThe Bill Rignola Quartet is: \nBorn in 1933 in East Patchogue\, New York\, Bill Rignola’s first love has always been jazz. His musical career began in high school playing clarinet before he switched to tenor saxophone. In 1971\, Bill formed a wedding band that started out with three pieces and grew to six pieces by 1990. Since 1996\, he has been playing in jazz venues and restaurants spanning the east end of Long Island to New York City\, and in Fort Myers and Naples\, Florida. For the past 25 years\, he’s played at the Dunton Inn in East Patchogue every Wednesday night\, which may be the longest running jazz jam on Long Island. It especially warms his heart to see the next generation of jazz musicians feeding off decades of experience ~ they are the ones who will keep Jazz alive! Bill is especially pleased his musical talent has manifested in his children and grandchildren. \nJerry McDonald is a native LI/NYC bassist who performs on both the upright bass and electric bass.
