Exploring Ethical Dilemmas in: Education w/ Justine Fellows and Peter Hertzberg

November 4, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for an insightful evening of conversation surrounding the many ethical challenges that administrators, teachers, parents, and students face in our schools. Using case studies from Harvard University’s Justice in Schools program, we will tackle conversations ranging from grade inflation to the recent surge in divisive language and behavior seen in our classrooms. Attendees will draw out the dilemmas in each case, ask which values are at stake, and then consider the practices and policies that should be followed.

Justine Fellows is Dean as well as Registrar and Director of Special Programs at Greens Farms Academy. She serves on the Connecticut Association of Independent School’s Commission for School Growth and Collaboration.

Peter Hertzberg is a K-to-post-secondary educator teaching leadership, and partnership-building in independent, public, and charter schools as well as community college. He also specializes in innovating high school programs, designing and integrating curriculum, building more robust, interactive teaching cultures, improving literacy, and cultivating student engagement.

What does one do when there’s no clearly defined ethical road to take? Exploring Ethical Dilemmas features speakers from a variety of backgrounds — medicine, law, business, science, education, the arts, social work, etc. — who share their experience and knowledge of ethical issues in those fields. Monthly, 1st Monday.
