Among the directors she worked with are Robert Altman\, Nikita Mikhalkov\, and Costa Gavras. After editing several feature films\, she turned to documentary film editing. HEALING HEARTS is her first film as a director.

In the early 20th century\, he led the first successful national campaign against child labor and came very close to achieving his egalitarian vision in the mid-20th century. Recently\, we have moved in the completely opposite direction with the widening of the wealth gap making inequality in this country too obvious for anyone to ignore. How can we best turn things around? As Adler puts it\, how can we tax away “pomp and pride and power”? \nWe are thrilled to have Sam Pizzigati\, currently an Associate Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies Associate and former Director of Publishing at the National Education Association\, answer these questions as our special guest for this All-Societies Platform. DESCRIPTION:Our long-running staged reading and talkback series continues on October 20 and October 22 with two performances of Terry Teachout’s Satchmo at The Waldorf: \nSATCHMO AT THE WALDORF is a one-man\, three-character play in which the same actor portrays Louis Armstrong\, the greatest of all jazz trumpeters; Joe Glaser\, his white manager; and Miles Davis\, who admired Armstrong’s playing but disliked his onstage manner. It takes place in 1971 in a dressing room backstage at the Empire Room of New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel\, where Armstrong performed in public for the last time four months before his death. Reminiscing into a tape recorder about his life and work\, Armstrong seeks to come to terms with his longstanding relationship with Glaser\, whom he once loved like a father but now believes to have betrayed him. In alternating scenes\, Glaser defends his controversial decision to promote Armstrong’s career (with the help of the Chicago mob) by encouraging him to simplify his musical style\, while Davis attacks Armstrong for pandering to white audiences. \nAfter the performance\, we’ll host a lively discussion of the ethical issues raised by the play. \nPerformed by C.K. Robert was mentor to Johannes Brahms and a very close friendship of many years ensued between Johannes and Clara. Some believe that he was in love with her\, but whether or not this was the case\, their respect\, admiration\, and love for one another was made evident through countless letters and his loyalty and care for her through Robert’s illness and eventual death. Both Robert and Johannes dedicated piano works to Clara\, and Clara did the same for Johannes. These can be seen as love letters in musical form. \nDoors open at 5:45. DESCRIPTION:Our long-running staged reading and talkback series continues on October 20 and October 22 with two performances of Terry Teachout’s Satchmo at The Waldorf: \nSATCHMO AT THE WALDORF is a one-man\, three-character play in which the same actor portrays Louis Armstrong\, the greatest of all jazz trumpeters; Joe Glaser\, his white manager; and Miles Davis\, who admired Armstrong’s playing but disliked his onstage manner. It takes place in 1971 in a dressing room backstage at the Empire Room of New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel\, where Armstrong performed in public for the last time four months before his death. Reminiscing into a tape recorder about his life and work\, Armstrong seeks to come to terms with his longstanding relationship with Glaser\, whom he once loved like a father but now believes to have betrayed him. In alternating scenes\, Glaser defends his controversial decision to promote Armstrong’s career (with the help of the Chicago mob) by encouraging him to simplify his musical style\, while Davis attacks Armstrong for pandering to white audiences. \nAfter the performance\, we’ll host a lively discussion of the ethical issues raised by the play. \nPerformed by C.K. The piece creates a surreal spectacle while provoking contemplation about the beauty of that—and who—society throws away. \nFollowing\, the company performs Arbor which explores human kinship with trees. The memorial is at the corner of Greene Street and Washington Place by Washington Square Park. \nDetails at the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition Website. \nWatch our 2022 Labor Day Platform with professor and Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition President Mary Anne Trasciatti: \n \n********* \nThe long-awaited Triangle Fire Memorial to the victims and legacy of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire will be dedicated October 11\, 2023\, at 11:30 am at the site of the historic fire in New York City. Rising nine stories high\, the Memorial is being installed on the very building that housed the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory\, at the corner of Greene Street and Washington Place in Greenwich Village. \nThe outdoor dedication ceremony (rain or shine) is open to the public\, and will also be livestreamed. \nThe Triangle Fire Memorial tells the story of the fire in the languages spoken by the victims: English\, Yiddish and Italian.
