DESCRIPTION:Confusion\, deep-seated confusion\, is presently the only mature\, rational point of view to maintain. Modern advances in science and technology only further underwrite this uncertainty about so much in our lives- from our sense of selves to our ethical beliefs. Raised in a profoundly traditional Chassidic world where convictions were unquestioned\, along with my training as a professional philosopher\, I’m especially sensitive to the need for doubt—and\, therefore\, often dismayed by the certitudes I also find in the secular world I now inhabit. This is also true with regard to our ethical certainties as I will explore in this discussion. \nJoshua Halberstam\, Ph.D. is a Professor at Bronx Community College-City University of New York where he teaches communication and philosophy. Before teaching at BBC\, Halberstam taught at Teachers College\, Columbia University\, and New York University. He has published widely in the areas of epistemology\, ethics\, and the philosophy of religion. He is also the author of a novel\, A Seat at the Table\, which traces the development of a young man raised in a contemporary Chassidic world. His most recent book is The Blind Angel: New Old Chassidic Tales\, a translation of Chassidic tales from the Yiddish. Koral has been a Leader at the New York Society for Ethical Culture since 2017. Richard holds degrees from New York University and New York Law School\, and a Doctor of Ministry in interfaith pastoral counseling from the Hebrew Union College. He is the Leader Consultant to the Social Service Board and numerous committees in the Society.  Active with the American Ethical Union\, Richard served on its Board as president from 2012 to 2015. He also serves as part-time Leader for the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island. \nStu Fuchs will be joining us to perform original songs & dazzling ukulele instrumentals in jazz & pop styles!\n\n\nStuart Fuchs is a Grammy-nominated multi instrumentalist\, recording artist\, and an innovative workshop facilitator.  He passionate about helping people of all backgrounds to enjoy playing music with greater ease\, freedom and joy.\n\nIn addition to being a very active teacher & performer in the international “ukulele circuit”\, Stu has facilitated music workshops for Fortune 500 CEO’s and at holistic centers across North America\, Europe and The Caribbean.\n\nStu toured the world with renowned sacred chant artist Snatam Kaur\, playing meditative guitar styles to audiences of 5\,000 people.  His award-winning Django Reinhardt/Gypsy Jazz band “Babik” performed at major festivals\, with symphony orchestras\, and was featured on Public Radio International.\n\nFor eight years Stu worked as a professional artist-in-residence at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo NY where he offered healing music and different creative therapies for patient\, families and hospital staff.  In 2014 he was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to create music & films documenting his work offering healing music at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.\n\nStu offers weekly ukulele lessons and music inspiration at his YouTube channel “Ukulele Zen”\n\nClick here to join at start time | ID 863 0430 0961\nFor full join information\, please also see this week’s Ethical Weekly email. \nPresider: Sarah Sprott \nShared Charity: Heifer International \n\nSunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event.
