SUMMARY:From Activists to Terrorists: How NSPM-7 Seeks to Use 'Domestic Terrorism' to Target Non-Profits and Activists
DESCRIPTION:WATCH LIVE\n \nSecret watchlists\, digital surveillance\, spurious investigations\, and the “terrorist” label: The government is using increasingly dangerous tools to intimidate and criminalize activists and organizations President Trump considers “the enemy within.” \nAnd the movement for climate justice is next. \nIn February\, the FBI visited members of Extinction Rebellion NYC and Attorney General Pam Bondi said Climate Defiance is under investigation. This week\, President Trump claimed\, “Environmentalists are terrorists.” \nThis follows the signing of National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 (NSPM-7)\, a new\, terrifying federal blacklist targeting expansive categories of activists and organizations. \nThese were not the first groups to be targeted and they will not be the last. \nJoin us to hear from targeted activists facing down these threats\, along with legal experts battling the government in court\, to learn how we can–and must–work together to protect each other\, protect our civil liberties\, and protect our climate in the face of fossil-fueled authoritarianism. \nSPEAKERS INCLUDE\nSteven Donziger\, Moderator – Attorney and activist \nNate Smith – Targeted climate activist \nDana R. Fisher – Director of the Center for Environment\, Community\, & Equity and Professor in the School of International Service at American University. \nEmile Ayoub – Senior Counsel of the @brennancenter Liberty and National Security Program \nRonald L. Kuby – Criminal defense and civil rights lawyer\, radio talk show host\, and television commentator \nMore Speakers TBA! \n>>>Register on Eventbrite

SUMMARY:Screening & Discussion: 'Broadway\, Bars and Fortune: A Story of Incarceration and Redemption'
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free screening of the powerful new 40-minute documentary Broadway\, Bars\, and Fortune that highlights the work of our friends at The Fortune Society\, followed by a conversation with director Dr. Shuvendu Sen\, Fortune Society founder David Rothenberg\, and others from the film! \nIn a climate of increasing crime and high recidivism\, an organization chooses a unique path of transformation through arts and theater. \nThis is the story of four formerly incarcerated souls turned actors\, their travails\, their indomitable courage\, and their triumphant return to their lives. \nBroadway\, Bars\, and Fortune is a documentary on courage\, hope\, and arts entwined in an encircling embrace of human bondage. A reminder that formal acceptance and adoption of such measures during the period of incarceration can be life changing and often lifesaving. \nRead more about the film at Theater News and Splashmags. \n>>>RSVP on Eventbrite

SUMMARY:Metropolitan Presents: ‘Going to Extremes: A John Waters 80th Birthday Celebration’
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed film director John Waters brings Going to Extremes: A John Waters 80th Birthday Celebration to Adler Hall at New York Society for Ethical Culture on Sunday\, April 19\, 2026 at 7:30PM. John Waters is back on the road with a whole new radical comedy revival show whose sermon will beg the authorities to drop a net on both himself and his rabidly insane audience. He has performed his one man spoken-word lectures entitled “End of the World\,” “This Filthy World\,” “False Negative\,” “Naked Truth\,” or “Make Trouble” and his annual Christmas show\, “A John Waters Christmas\,” at colleges\, museums\, film festivals and comedy clubs around the world. Waters has played to sold out audiences at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival\, Bonnaroo\, Sydney Opera House\, Volksbühne Berlin\, and both the Southbank Centre and Barbican Hall in London. He has hosted the Mosswood Meltdown punk rock music festival for over a decade.
