At a later point\, Ms. Tillinghast headed state operations out of Jackson\, MS\, subsequent to which she handled regional administrative work at SNCC headquarters in Atlanta\, GA. SUMMARY:Postponed - Fridays for Future: NYC Youth Climate Justice Convergence
DESCRIPTION:Notice: This event has been postponed until Saturday\, March 1. \nThe climate crisis is worsening\, fossil fuels are continuing to expand\, New York City has literally been on fire\, and we have an incoming xenophobic presidency that pledges “drill\, baby\, drill\,” who poses a threat to our human rights across the board\, and a prospect of continual disasters. We are at a tipping point for our movement. \nOn January 25\, days after the upcoming inauguration\, a cross-sectional portion of organizers\, young people\, activists\, and students from across the New York City youth climate justice movement will gather for a critical day-long gathering of trainings\, workshops\, speakers\, and planning. It’s high time we stand up for our future; this is our opportunity! You don’t want to miss it. \nThis is our moment to come together\, learn\, and prepare for what a second Trump administration means for our future and organizing in New York City and how we’re going to fight back. The day will include workshops and presentations from organizers and activists across the movement\, covering all the issues that define our future under attack to paint a picture of what it looks like to fight for climate justice as our country is being taken over nationally by fascism. The presentations and workshops will cover and discuss the state of climate justice\, environmental justice\, and climate action policy in New York City and State\, and how we can get involved in organizing for change here. We will also discuss in depth what our roles are in the movement\, get to know youth organizers and passionate students from across the city\, and get an understanding of how we can organize for change in our school communities. The day will also feature a suite of exciting and well-known speakers. Lunch will be provided. \nWhether you’ve never attended a climate or environmental justice action before or you’ve dedicated years to organizing around it\, this event is for you. \nLet’s learn\, let’s grow\, let’s prepare\, let’s bring this movement together. Another future is possible. \nHosted by Fridays for Future NYC \nRSVP\nNew RSVP link and date TBA! \nFAQ\nIs there an age limit for this event? Our goal with this work is to bring together as many facets of our generation as possible to build power and collectively organize for successful change. So that being said\, this event is geared to any and all who want to engage in youth organizing with a focus on students in High School\, Higher Education\, Middle School\, or other recent graduates of either high school or a higher level. If you’re not sure whether you fit in any of these groups or if this is the space for you feel free to mark those questions when you RSVP!

SUMMARY:Jewish Currents Magazine - Book Launch with Peter Beinart: 'Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza'
DESCRIPTION:Join Jewish Currents Magazine in Adler Hall for the launch of editor-at-large Peter Beinart’s new book\, Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza: A Reckoning. Beinart will be joined in conversation by MSNBC journalist and commentator Ayman Mohyeldin. In-person and online! \nIn Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza\, Beinart considers how a story of persecution and victimhood has come to dominate contemporary Jewish life\, even as Israel is decimating the conditions of life for millions. That narrative\, Beinart argues\, both warps our understanding of Israel and Palestine and erases much of the nuance of Jewish religious tradition. After more than a year of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza—and the deployment of Jewish text and history to justify mass slaughter and starvation—Beinart insists that Jews must tell a new story. After this war\, whose horror will echo for generations\, they must offer a new answer to the question: What does it mean to be a Jew? \nTickets to this event are free for Jewish Currents members. Non-member tickets are available for a suggested donation of $18—or for $36\, get a ticket plus a signed copy of the book. Not in New York\, or unable to attend in-person? Get a virtual ticket: free for members\, or a suggested donation of $9 for non-members. \nWe hope you’ll join Peter Beinart and Ayman Mohyeldin for this special evening. Registration is required and seats are limited. Get your ticket now to guarantee your spot! \nRegister\nClick here to RSVP at Jewish Currents
