Please keep an eye on our calendar for updates about next month’s Exploring Ethical Dilemmas. \n******************** \nRetired Medical Oncologist Carol Portlock will lead a discussion of the ethical considerations regarding “cutting edge” treatments such as fecal transplants\, as well as drug development and costs raised in this New York Times article. The ethics of offering the option of “no treatment“ in some lymphomas will also be addressed. \nDr. Carol Portlock did all her undergraduate/medical training at Stanford specializing in medical oncology and participating in clinical research of chemotherapy. After moving East\, Dr. Portlock worked at Yale for 10 years and at Memorial Sloan-Kettering for 30 years continuing her clinical research in lymphoma. Dr. Portlock was a member of the MSK Ethics Committee for 19 years. She retired one year ago. \n\nWhat does one do when there’s no clearly defined ethical road to take? This program features speakers from a variety of backgrounds — medicine\, law\, business\, science\, education\, the arts\, social work\, etc. — who share their experience and knowledge of ethical issues in those fields. This Sunday Platform will be presented online via Zoom. \nFREE and open to the public. \n\nSunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Ethical Culture philosophy. This Sunday Platform will be presented online via Zoom. \nFREE and open to the public. \n\nSunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Ethical Culture philosophy.
