DESCRIPTION:Our annual free holiday noon concert series returns to historic Adler Hall! Stop by for beautiful music in December. \nThis week features jazz bassist Marco Panascia with pianist Jon Weber. \nAbout Marco Panascia and Jon Weber\nMarco Panascia (pronounced: pana-SEE-ah) is an Italian-born bassist\, composer and educator living in New York City since 2002\, and a recently minted U.S. citizen. His proficiency in many different musical settings\, and his strong doubling skills on the acoustic and the electric basses have earned him wholehearted praise worldwide. Panascia has made a name for himself by being featured in the groups of several jazz luminaries\, such as Kenny Barron\, Andy Bey\, Kevin Mahogany\, Mike Stern\, Randy Brecker\, Eric Reed\, Dado Moroni\, Alvin Queen\, Bobby Watson\, Peter Bernstein\, Tamir Hendelman\, Claudio Roditi\, and David Kikoski\, and by regularly appearing in some of the world’s top music festivals and venues\, such as the Montreux Jazz Festival\, the Hollywood Bowl\, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Panascia is also known for his tenure with young jazz piano sensation Eldar Djangirov\, which delivered sold-out performances in three continents\, and culminated in two celebrated CD releases on the Sony BMG Masterworks label: “Live at the Blue Note”\, and “re-imagination”\, which received a 2008 Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. This intimate union of Ravel and Rilke invites us into the Paris of 1903\, when two masterpieces were written just miles away at the same moment of La Belle Époque. \nRainer Maria Rilke’s famous correspondence with aspiring poet\, Franz Kappus was re-examined in 2020\, when all of Kappus’ letters to Rilke were unexpectedly found. Rilke’s mentorship is mirrored by Debussy’s influence on Ravel\, presenting four artists intertwined in a unique union of music and text. And has recorded with his own groups and with a virtual “who’s who” of the music industry. Michael was nominated for a 2013 Grammy Award for “Best Instrumental Arrangement” for his “Afro-Latin Ellington Suite.” Michael has composed and arranged music for the films “Bossa Nova” and “Chico and Rita\,” which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2012. His ballet “Beneath the Mask” was performed by Jon Faddis and the Chicago Jazz Orchestra with the Deeply Rooted Dance Company (choreographed by Mayte Vicens.) In addition to a busy performance schedule\, Peter has a state-of-the-art multimedia drum studio where he teaches\, writes drum books and records instructional videos in an effort to offer the finest in drum lessons and drum education. \nJerry McDonald is a native LI/NYC bassist who performs on both the upright bass and electric bass. After being introduced to the great Jazz-Fusion bassist Jaco Pastorius\, Jerry’s desire to study the tradition of Jazz Music was born. His musical journey\, however\, has led to many noteworthy performances in both Jazz and Rock genres. Jerry has had the opportunity to perform with Carl Allen\, Dan Faulk\, Rufus Reid Bass Quartet\, Earl Williams\, Tim Siciliano\, Mark Marino\, Tim Regusis\, Steve Salerno\, Ron Affif\, Swingset Quartet\, Jack Licitra\, and The Al Miller Big Band. He has also toured with vocalist Anastasia Renee and her Quartet in Russia\, as well as with Beledo Accoustic Trio in Puerto Rico. He’s played electric bass for Soul Revival\, a funk R&B Band\, performing at many clubs and events throughout the New York tri-state area and northeastern United States. \nPianist Stu Waters is an accomplished pianist and vocalist\, classically trained in piano at the Juilliard Prep School.
