Today\, we will specifically discuss the work that Project Rousseau is doing to support newly arrived refugees and migrants in New York\, as the City faces an unprecedented wave of new arrivals. \nAndrew Heinrich founded Project Rousseau\, a non-profit organization that helps young people in communities in the highest need to reach their full potential and excel in higher education. Alongside his leadership of Project Rousseau\, Andrew is General Secretary and a founding board member of PARC Adventures Monaco. He also serves on the Fund Development Council at Columbia University\, the Junior Board at City Harvest\, the Board of the International School of Monaco\, and the Board of Directors at HIAS. \nProject Rousseau often says that “academic problems rarely have academic causes\,” meaning that our social services are just as important to our academic outcomes as any of our academic programming. Open mic follows! \nClick here to purchase tickets on Eventbrite! \nThe Bill Rignola Quartet is: \nBorn in 1933 in East Patchogue\, New York\, Bill Rignola’s first love has always been jazz. His musical career began in high school playing clarinet before he switched to tenor saxophone. In 1971\, Bill formed a wedding band that started out with three pieces and grew to six pieces by 1990. Since 1996\, he has been playing in jazz venues and restaurants spanning the east end of Long Island to New York City\, and in Fort Myers and Naples\, Florida. For the past 25 years\, he’s played at the Dunton Inn in East Patchogue every Wednesday night\, which may be the longest running jazz jam on Long Island. It especially warms his heart to see the next generation of jazz musicians feeding off decades of experience ~ they are the ones who will keep Jazz alive! Bill is especially pleased his musical talent has manifested in his children and grandchildren. \nJerry McDonald is a native LI/NYC bassist who performs on both the upright bass and electric bass. After being introduced to the great Jazz-Fusion bassist Jaco Pastorius\, Jerry’s desire to study the tradition of Jazz Music was born. His musical journey\, however\, has led to many noteworthy performances in both Jazz and Rock genres. Jerry has had the opportunity to perform with Carl Allen\, Dan Faulk\, Rufus Reid Bass Quartet\, Earl Williams\, Tim Siciliano\, Mark Marino\, Tim Regusis\, Steve Salerno\, Ron Affif\, Swingset Quartet\, Jack Licitra\, and The Al Miller Big Band. He has also toured with vocalist Anastasia Renee and her Quartet in Russia\, as well as with Beledo Accoustic Trio in Puerto Rico. He’s played electric bass for Soul Revival\, a funk R&B Band\, performing at many clubs and events throughout the New York tri-state area and northeastern United States. \nPianist Stu Waters is an accomplished pianist and vocalist\, classically trained in piano at the Juilliard Prep School. Stuart started performing professionally at age 13 when he became involved in jazz and blues. At age 15\, he was featured as a rising star on WQXR Radio’s “Young America Plays”. He has performed throughout the United States\, and his performance and studio credits include projects with Joe Carbone\, Joe Carter\, Paula Atherton\, Earl Williams\, Walter Perkins\, James Cammack\, Chasey Dean and Rose Gunter \nJerry Nobile has been playing the drums for over 35 years at various events and at live performances all along the east coast. How does New York City ensure the next generation learns about the role and importance of government in their lives. Our speakers will discuss some recent actions that NYC is taking to reintroduce civics education and engagement.\n\nSpeakers: \nJenna Ryall\, Director of Civics for All at the New York City Department of Education \nJenna Ryall co-designed the Civics for All initiative\, a comprehensive K–12 civic education program available to all NYCDOE schools. DESCRIPTION:In-person and online! Join Society Leaders Nori Rost and Jé Hooper for Ethics Unplugged\, an exciting reimagining of Ethical Culture\, every Wednesday at 7:00pm. Come early for wine and refreshments! \nTonight we will be joined by guest speaker Mick Metal. Mick began in 2003 as a body piecer at Stiehl’s Body Modification and came to work at Shotsie’s Tattoo? in 2004 and went through his apprenticeship. Mick was Shotsie Gorman’s last apprentice. He left to buy a tattoo shop in Guttenberg\, NJ and then sold it to open Revolution Tattoo Co. in Pearl River\, NY. In 2014 he and a few other tattooists fought against unjust ink laws that were put into law with out NY tattoo artists knowledge and ultimately had the laws reacted and rewritten and approved by then Governor Cuomo. As an advocate for tattooing he is as of 2021 a Board Member of the Alliance of Professional Tattooists and continues to fight for the rights of tattoo artists everywhere. Mick is available Wednesdays through Saturdays. \nApril Theme: Stories Our Bodies Tell \nThis month we will be exploring the stories our bodies tell through choice and chance. For many of us tattoos are an important way to tell the stories of our lives. For some\, scars derived from accidents or surgeries have equally profound stories to share. Join us as we explore these mediums of life. \nGet a tattoo or piercing at Ethical!
