Sunday Platform with Mark Grossman: ‘When Truth Is Silenced Anywhere: How Undermining Journalism Undermines Democracy’

June 22 @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm

Free in-person and online!

Drawing from his widely read Newsday column, communications expert and professor Mark J. Grossman explores the ethical and geopolitical consequences of dismantling U.S.-funded international media. As Voice of America and similar outlets face politicization and funding cuts, this talk examines how weakening global journalism not only empowers authoritarian regimes abroad but also threatens democratic norms at home. When the truth is silenced — anywhere — freedom is at risk everywhere.

Community lunch follows, free for first-time guests!

About Mark Grossman

Mark J. Grossman is a veteran communications consultant, government affairs professional, and educator. He served as Long Island Regional Director for Governor Mario M. Cuomo and has held senior roles in local and state government, including Deputy Town Supervisor in Brookhaven, Regional Representative for the New York State Labor Commissioner, and Long Island Field Director for the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery after Superstorm Sandy.

In the private sector, Mark leads Mark Grossman Public Relations, a firm that has represented major corporations like AT&T Wireless, Duke Energy, and The Home Depot, as well as a wide range of nonprofit and public sector clients.

He teaches communications at both Nassau and Suffolk community colleges and has also served on the faculties of NYIT and Hofstra University. His writing has appeared in Newsday, The New York Times, and other publications, and he recently authored a highly regarded Newsday column on the dismantling of Voice of America, examining the consequences of undermining press freedom.

Mark is a past school board member, a nonprofit board leader, and—most unexpectedly—a graduate of Stand-Up University who occasionally performs comedy across Long Island.
