SUMMARY:Young Ethical Explorers: Hi-Story!
DESCRIPTION:Justice January focuses on the balance between self and other\, expressing and listening. It is a month inspired by one of America’s great justice movements: the civil rights movement\, it’s legacy and the work of creating equity in society. \nThis week’s topic: “The wheels on THAT Montgomery bus…digging under histories for more stories.” \n\nEthics for Children is our Humanist Sunday school\, designed for youngsters from ages 4 to 13\, and takes place concurrent with our Sunday Platform meetings. Sessions raise issues of personal identity and integrity\, appreciation and respect for others\, and knowledge of religions\, philosophies\, and social concerns. Topics are explored in an age-appropriate way through discussion\, storytelling\, dramatization\, music\, art\, games\, and field trips. \nRSVP is essential to guarantee your place and for planning purposes. If you are enrolled for the season or are members of Ethical NYC your spot is guaranteed. To RSVP as a guest\, become a member\, or enroll in season\, please contact Audrey at YoungEthicalExplorers@gmail.com. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome!

SUMMARY:Sunday Platform - Jason Haber - Futurecity: A Look at the Past\, Present\, and Future of NYC and Cities Around the World
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in history\, more people live in cities than in rural areas. By 2050\, another 2 billion people will occupancy our planet\, with two-thirds of them living in cities. While we have reached unprecedented population growth\, our planet is under siege and many of our cities\, including our own\, are ill-prepared for the coming storm. From climate change\, infrastructure\, housing\, health care and transportation\, cities will face historic challenges to meet the demands of the 21st century. How do cities meet these challenges and thrive in the face of them? In FutureCity\, Jason takes the audience through the history of cities\, and explores contemporary issues that are key to their survival and success. For New York\, this requires a further embrace of Jane Jacobs\, while moving on from the cen-centric policies of Robert Moses. \nJason Haber is a serial and social entrepreneur. His extensive career has intersected the worlds of real estate\, politics\, academia and publishing. He is currently an elected official in the Democratic party\, where he serves a District Leader and as a member of the State Committee. In 2019 he launched a podcast on urbanism called FutureCity. His first book\, The Business of Good\, was a best-seller on Amazon. \nShared Charity: NYCH20 \nPresider: Larry Hurst \nFREE and open to the public. \n\nSunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Ethical Culture philosophy. A collection basket is passed and money is shared between the Society and a charity selected for that day.  While contributions are always appreciated\, Sunday meetings are free and open to the public.  Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour. \nTo view previous Sunday Platform addresses and interviews\, visit the Ethical NYC YouTube channel.
