There will be an opportunity for audiences to ask their own questions during a Q&A session. \nThis month: Dr. Arthur Dobrin \nThe Puffin Interview Series holds their first in-person interview with our very own Dr. Joe Chuman and Dr. Arthur Dobrin\, Leader Emeritus of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island and the author of This Red Land\, a work that captures two worlds: Kenya and in the United States of America. The book deals with many of the issues affecting these two countries in the 1980’s and 1990’s. There is Sungusungu in Kisii\, Junius George’s murder trial and death. The tribal killings in Kenya in 1992\, witchcraft as presented in Kisii\, the Tomkins park riot in which Kwamboka is involved in and many more events are real. Joe has been a leader at the New York Society Since 2008. \nDuring his long career\, Joe has worked as an academic\, a social justice activist\, a speaker\, and a writer. He has been teaching human rights in the Graduate School at Columbia University for more than 20 years\, teaches human rights at Hunter College\, and has taught at the U. N. University for Peace in Costa Rica and at other colleges. \nAs an activist\, Joe has advocated for civil liberties\, human rights\, and other progressive causes and has frequently testified before the New Jersey legislature on such issues as religious freedom\, gun violence prevention\, death penalty opposition\, and immigrant rights. He founded the Northern New Jersey Coalition for Asylum Seekers 20 years ago and still serves as its president. Our general meetings include: \n\nFeatured Guest Speakers—learn the latest from experts in the knitting world!\nShow and Tell—present your finished projects to an appreciative audience!\nMembers-Only Raffle—win a skein of luxury yarn at our raffle drawing each month!\nBeginners Circle—improve your knitting skills with help from fellow BAKG members!\nCharity Knitting Table—knit for those in need!\nKALs—join a knit-along and complete a project with the help of friends!\n\nCome and join us! At live meetings\, guests are welcome—first visit is free; a nominal guest fee of $5 is charged on subsequent visits. This fee may be applied to annual dues if paid on the meeting day.
