SUMMARY:Jone Johnson Lewis: When Hope is Hard to Find
DESCRIPTION:Free and open to the public\, in-person and online! \nThere are some times in our lives when we begin to lose hope.   We lose something we had\, or thought we had\, and we begin to lose our faith that it will come back again.  Jone Lewis will explore some of the ways in which we can look at hope – not wishful thinking\, or a full confidence in the future\, but simple hope: “As a humanist\, I don’t find a guarantee of a future life meaningful. I want some joy and freedom and love in this life.” \nWatch Online\nClick to join at start time | ID 863 0430 0961 | Passcode 609424\nTo join by phone (audio only)\, dial (929) 205-6099 and enter the Zoom ID above. \nAbout Jone Johnson Lewis\nJone has been an Ethical Culture Leader and Unitarian Universalist minister since 1991.  She has served Ethical Societies in Chicago\, Northern Virginia\, Brooklyn\, and Riverdale-Yonkers\, two Unitarian Universalist congregations\, and served for a short time as an Interim Executive Director of the American Ethical Union. She is currently offering courses and opportunities for connection at EManifold.com\, serving as the Vice President of the National Leaders Council\, and continuing her quotations site at WisdomQuotes.net. \nMonthly Collection\nCamp Linden \nAbout Sunday Platform\nSunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour. \nTo watch previous Sunday Platforms\, visit our Videos page and YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Fight Voter Suppression and Protect Abortion: Reclaim Our Vote Postcard Writing Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Fighting voter suppression is both more important and more challenging than ever\, and directly engaging voters is crucial to protecting and expanding our democracy. \nBring a friend and join the Society’s Social Service Board for our next Reclaim Our Vote postcard writing gathering! So far\, our team has prepared postcards to help thousands of voters learn about\, and then beat\, voter suppression in their states. \nNext up: Georgia and Texas. \nPostcards created at this gathering will be mailed to lists of targeted voters in October\, ensuring they arrive before election day. \nCan’t Make This Gathering? You Can Still Help!\nSimply email Social Service Board chair Janet Rose at rov.nysec@gmail.com to place an order for postcard supplies in multiples of 20. Supply packets can be picked up at the Society Monday-Thursday\, 10am-4pm. \nSupply packets include your requested quantity of postcards\, labels\, addresses\, and instructions. The cost is .60 per postcard with stamps\, or .10 per postcard without stamps. Payment info will be sent to you when you request the packet. \nPostcards will be targeting voters in Georgia and Texas\, and won’t be mailed until early to mid-October\, so consider taking a many as you think you can complete before then! \nRSVP\nPlease RSVP to rov.nysec@gmail.com if you plan to attend. \nThank you for whatever help you can give! For questions\, please contact rov.nysec@gmail.com. \nAbout Reclaim Our Vote\nReclaim Our Vote is a campaign of the Center for Common Ground\, a non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to empower under-represented voters to fully participate in elections. To support that mission we provide voter education on how to monitor voter registration status\, find voting locations (vote centers\, dropboxes and voting precincts) as well as county contacts for local boards of elections or registrars. \nFor more information about ROV\, please read the guidelines for postcard writers and watch this short ROV training video above.
