She was born in Attelboro\, MA in 1851 (the same year as Felix Adler in NYC)\, and\, at the time of her death in 1931\, was one of the most recognized experts in and writers about the family\, as well as a pioneer in women’s suffrage and leader of movements for world peace. DESCRIPTION:50 years ago\, the nations of the Third World\, having won their independence from colonialism\, came together to propose a vision for sovereign development and international cooperation in trade\, finance\, and technology — and won a UN Declaration for the Establishment of a New International Economic Order at the General Assembly. \nToday\, we are again in a moment of rapid geopolitical transformation with the end of the unipolar domination of the United States — but we lack a common vision of the multipolar world that is now in formation. How will we confront the crises of climate change\, viral pandemic\, and extreme poverty that threaten billions of lives and livelihoods across the planet? \nOver the past two years\, the Progressive International has convened scholars\, diplomats\, and policymakers in a series of debates and discussions to answer these questions. Their deliberations yielded a clear strategy to ‘assert Southern power’ toward a new global contract on sovereign development\, as set out in the Havana Declaration delivered at the closing ceremony of the inaugural Congress on the New International Economic Order. \n“The Congress recognizes that economic liberation will not be granted\, but must be seized. DESCRIPTION:Jazz Cafe returns with acclaimed jazz singer Marion Cowings and guests! \nMusicians\nJazz singer Marion Cowings is a native New Yorker and master of scat and vocal technique. Marion attended Music and Art\, now known as LaGuardia High School\, where he was chosen to perform as a solo vocalist with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. \nWhile still in high school Cowings’ first professional engagement was at the Randall’s Island Jazz Festival with “Little Pony” Poindextor and the Ike Isaac’s Trio. During this time Marion began to understudy with Jon Hendricks\, Dave Lambert and Ross. Eventually Marion became Lambert’s original replacement and was then mentored by Jon Hendricks. \nIn 1984\, after leading rhythm & blues and rock bands\, Cowings teamed up with jazz vocalist Kim Kalesti. Together they performed hundreds of concerts and recorded several albums. They also founded the Vocal Jazz Department at New York University and were adjunct professors for eleven years. Marion’s smooth baritone voice and considerable range have been delighting audiences around the world for decades. He has performed at the Lincoln Center\, Kennedy Center\, Blue Note\, Village Vanguard and many prestigious venues abroad. He is also the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant and Clio Award. \nStu Waters is an accomplished pianist and vocalist\, classically trained in piano at the Juilliard Prep School. Stuart started performing professionally at age 13 when he became involved in jazz and blues. At age 15\, he was featured as a rising star on WQXR Radio’s “Young America Plays”. DESCRIPTION:The Big Apple Knitters Guild meets on the second Saturday of every month\, from 1 to 4 PM (unless otherwise specified) from September through June. Our general meetings include: \n\nFeatured Guest Speakers—learn the latest from experts in the knitting world!\nShow and Tell—present your finished projects to an appreciative audience!\nMembers-Only Raffle—win a skein of luxury yarn at our raffle drawing each month!\nBeginners Circle—improve your knitting skills with help from fellow BAKG members!\nCharity Knitting Table—knit for those in need!\nKALs—join a knit-along and complete a project with the help of friends!\n\nCome and join us! At live meetings\, guests are welcome—first visit is free; a nominal guest fee of $5 is charged on subsequent visits. This fee may be applied to annual dues if paid on the meeting day.
