SUMMARY:Sunday Platform with Anne Klaeysen: Revisiting 'Justice January' Seven Years Later
DESCRIPTION:Society Leader Emerita Dr. Anne Klaeysen returns on Sunday to explore the developments of the last seven years and what justice means moving forward after the election: \nSeven years ago\, when I was clergy leader at the New York Society\, I gave a platform address called Justice January. This January the same person who was then president will be returning to the White House\, so I am returning to this topic. \nAs I noted then\, justice is “an idea that has taken center stage in ethics\, philosophy\, religion\, law\, and politics for millennia.” I asked\, “What distinguishes justice from other moral and political ideas?” Now I wonder whether justice in this country has become so politicized as to be meaningless. \nWhat does it mean when we say that Ethical Culture has a social justice mission? Explore with me ways to fulfill that mission. \nAbout Anne Klaeysen\nDr. Anne Klaeysen is Leader Emerita of the New York Society for Ethical Culture. She is also co-chair of The Encampment for Citizenship Board. Anne holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in pastoral care and counseling from Hebrew Union College\, as well as masters’ degrees in business administration and German. She and her husband\, Glenn Newman\, were married and raised their children at the Brooklyn Society\, where Anne currently serves as vice president. \nJoin Online\nRSVP Here to Join on Zoom \nMonthly Collection\nCamp Linden \nAbout Sunday Platform\nSunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate\, stimulate personal growth\, inspire reflection and action\, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings begin with music\, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader\, member\, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events\, pressing social issues\, and Humanist philosophy. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour. \nTo watch previous Sunday Platforms\, visit our Videos page and YouTube channel.
