SUMMARY:Young Ethical Explorers: Self-Empowerment\, Self-Advocacy\, and Conflict Resolution with Gabriella Belfiglio: 'Standing Up For Our Values'
DESCRIPTION:Newcomers are always welcome! \nBeginning this Sunday\, every other week we’ll be joined by Gabriella Belfiglio\, a long-time anti-bullying and self-defense teacher (and award-winning poet!) who will lead children in becoming empowered to express themselves and resolve conflicts with confidence and compassion–to become ‘upstanders’ not merely bystanders. \nChildren will learn how to stand up for themselves and others\, and gain resilience through skill-focused exercises and explorations led by Gabriella. This will be joyful and fun\, but will empower children with essential tools to face difficult moments\, hurt feelings\, and challenging peer pressures at school\, on the playground\, and beyond. \nFREE! Recommended for Ages 7-13 \nTo RSVP\, or for any questions\, please email Youth and Family Programs Coordinator Audrey Kindred at akindred@nysec.org. \nAbout Young Ethical Explorers\nYoung Ethical Explorers is the New York Society for Ethical Culture’s Humanist Sunday school for ages 3-11. Sessions raise issues of personal identity and integrity\, appreciation and respect for others\, and knowledge of religions\, philosophies\, and social concerns. Topics are explored in an age-appropriate way through discussion\, storytelling\, dramatization\, music\, art\, games\, and field trips. \nRSVP is essential to guarantee your place and for planning purposes. If you are enrolled for the season or are members of Ethical NYC your spot is guaranteed. To RSVP as a guest\, become a member\, or enroll in season\, please contact Audrey at ethicalfamilies@nysec.org. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome!

SUMMARY:Ethics and the Theater Encore: Summer\, 1976
DESCRIPTION:Our long-running staged reading and talkback series continues with David Auburn’s Summer\, 1976 \nJoin us for a reception 30 minutes before showtime\, and for a post-reading talkback with the cast and director exploring the ethical questions raised by the play. \nAbout Summer\, 1976\nA deeply moving\, tenderly insightful play about friendship\, memory\, and the small moments that can change the course of our lives forever. Over one fateful summer\, an unlikely friendship develops between Diana\, a fiercely iconoclastic artist and single mom\, and Alice\, a free-spirited yet naive young housewife. As the Bicentennial is celebrated across the country\, these two young women in Ohio navigate motherhood\, ambition and intimacy\, and help each other discover their own independence. \nProduced by Patricia Bruder Debrovner. \nRSVP\nRSVP Here
