Could the increasing political divide in the U.S. be linked to this decline in empathy? Empathy is a combination of innate traits and learned skills. These questions\, along with other related topics\, will be explored in this interactive presentation. \nCommunity lunch follows! \nAbout Leader Curt Collier\nCurt Collier is the Leader of the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County and a passionate advocate for community redevelopment. He works as a consultant\, helping nonprofits enhance their capacity to make a positive impact. Additionally\, Collier is a professor of Ethics and Ethics in Science at Fairleigh Dickinson University and serves as a Community Planning Specialist for the National Park Service. He leads various initiatives\, including job training programs for New York City schools\, support for environmental nonprofits in New Jersey\, and projects aimed at improving scientific literacy among young adults. This vision guided her through school and a 30-year career in public policy. \nAs Deputy Director of the Maine State Planning Office Sue managed a portfolio of environmental policy issues on behalf of the Governor. Policy issues she’s worked on include fisheries\, land use planning\, smart growth\, building and energy codes\, renewable energy\, energy efficiency\, energy democracy\, working waterfront access\, community finance\, and rural broadband. \nSue now works as a speaker\, writer\, and advocate with a focus on the environment and climate change. Sue currently serves on the board of Defend Our Health\, an organization dedicated to removing toxics from the environment. \nShe writes a bi-monthly blog highlighting positive stories about the environment\, and teaches environmental advocacy at Colby and Bates Colleges. \nSue holds a BA in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic\, and an MBA from the University of New Hampshire. She lives in North Yarmouth with her husband Bob and dog Millie. \nHer latest book\, Advocating for the Environment\, is a citizen’s guide to taking effective action\, based on Sue’s experience as an organizer and lobbyist. He is currently producer and host of Radio Free Eireann and Talk Mac\, We and Thee with Malachy McCourt and Corey Kilgannon\, weekly radio shows heard on Pacifica station WBAI\, New York.  John began his career as a NYC Yellow cab driver after serving in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He has been writing and performing at Caroline’s\, the Comic Strip\, the Huntington Cinema Arts Center\, NY Society for Ethical Culture\, the Puffin Room SOHO\, and Rocky Sullivan’s pub among others.  John is an active member of Irish American Writers and Artists.   As a political activist\, John was a monitor in the Nicaraguan elections in 1990\, organized “Cabbies Against Bush” campaign in NYC during the 2004 republican convention\, was editor of the Irish People newspaper\, hosted an Irish radio show in Perth\, Australia\, works with Veterans for peace\, and is the go-to voice of Irish American activism.  John was featured in the BBC program Steven Fry in America.
