SUMMARY:Climate and Energy Game Night with City Atlas
DESCRIPTION:Hosted the City Atlas network! \nIf we are to confront the climate crisis at scale\, we will need to collaborate and coordinate across fields\, neighborhoods\, cultures and industries. A serious energy transition demands such coordination (that’s what Energetic the game teaches us). Collaborative games and policy making forums (such as deliberative citizens’ assemblies) point the way forward to enable us to do this at scale. They orient participants towards long-term goals and enable them to work through scenarios of the coming decades\, in order to discuss what policies will be most efficient and successful at reducing emissions while maintaining public support. \nWe can teach everyone in the US (and then around the world) how to fix climate change with accurate\, updatable info\, scaling from a 2.5 hr game to a monthlong series of workshops\, matched to the region in which they live. And it’s fun! \nEnergetic as seen in New York Times\, on NY1\, and featured in METROPOLIS \nRSVP\nClick here to RSVP on Eventbrite!

SUMMARY:Israel - Palestine Discussion with Leader Dr. Joe Chuman (Members Only)
DESCRIPTION:From Leader Dr. Joe Chuman: \nI had the unusual opportunity to visit Israel last week. I traveled with a small group and met with representatives of Israel’s civil society. We also met with academics\, journalists\, a brother of a man held hostage\, and a soldier wounded in Gaza. We also visited a town that was a site of the Hamas massacre. \nAs many others\, I am very disturbed by the massacre of October 7th and the ensuing warfare. I have long believed that journalism provides merely a distillation of the facts. To truly grasp events that are occurring\, one needs to be on the ground and get a direct sense of the environment and the people. \nI have come back with several conclusions and had experiences that I would like share. \nI am planning a discussion with interested members of the Society to discuss what I saw and learned in my trip to Israel. \nThe discussion will be held on Thursday\, February 29th\, at 7:00 pm. It will be for members only\, in person\, and not via Zoom. \nIf you wish to attend\, please register with Maggie at mdetermann@nysec.org in advance. \nMany thanks for you interest. \nJoe Chuman
