Meet Favio, the first subject of our new #EthicalHumans campaign, where we highlight how our members lead ethical lives.
Favio is a 20-year-old Haitian immigrant living in Brooklyn. This ethical human came to New York after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, a traumatic experience for anyone, let alone a teenager. One thing Favio has done to help him through the pain is immerse himself in volunteer work, including work at a local homeless shelter. He finds that helping others in need – and seeing the positive impact on another person’s life – helps him move forward. He also finds pleasure in simple things like a friendly game of soccer or spending time at the library writing. Favio found the New York Society for Ethical Culture two years ago through its Ethics for Children program, which has provided him with not only another way to do service but also a community of people with whom he can share his experiences and ideas. Favio currently attends Brooklyn College, where he studies philosophy and economics. You can find him at Ethical NYC’s Sunday Platform meetings almost every Sunday.
