By now most of the graduation ceremonies have been held for all levels of students. For those who graduated from college, another clock has begun ticking: in 6 months, (in ordinary times, anyway) their first student loan payment will be due. For the past several years, the concept of student loan forgiveness has been bandied about. It was a major part of Bernie Sanders’ platform, and President Biden has proposed a $20,000 reduction of student loans. For some, that would be a major relief; for others, not even a drop in the bucket. Should the government forgive student loans? Should there be stipulations? Who should qualify. What can we do about the rising cost of education?
