Call for Submissions: How Have You Navigated This Season and Times Like This?
We are seeking twelve Ethical Culturists to share their short story (up to 90 seconds) in response to any of these prompts:
- What gifts have darkness and light brought to your life?
- How has darkness nourished you toward a moment of light?
- Tell us about an incident, person, or moment in your life that recently brought you hope or joy?
We are seeking experiences from your life that you are willing to share with our national movement — a brief, evocative description or illustration rather than an intellectual explanation.
For example: “Last month I visited my aunt who was distraught over the fact that her cat had gone missing…. Her cat, named Willow, was a great comfort to her…. As I was getting ready to leave, the doorbell rang and when we opened it a neighborhood girl was holding Willow. The smile on my aunt’s face brightened my day.”
Your story can be more descriptive so that it fits our 90-second format. Hugh is happy to work with all those offering a story if they wish advice or coaching and a rehearsal.

About Sunday Platform
Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest. Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Humanist philosophy. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
