Writer and activist and event producer Esther Cohen participated in Ethical NYC’s Martin Luther King Day event: THE BELOVED COMMUNITY FESTIVAL, in a workshop process led by Writopia Lab that paired youth and elders in dialogue, inspiring one another.  There and then, she envisioned the Clara Lemlich Awards happening in the ultimate space of ethics: Adler Hall.

The Clara Lemlich Award honor unsung activists, women who have been working for the larger good all their lives, in the tradition of those who sparked so many reforms in the aftermath of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. This year we honor historian Blanche Weisen Cook and playwright Clare Coss, musician Bev Grant, poet Rashidah Ismaili, and author Rudean Leinaeng.

Presented in-person and live streamed by LaborArts & Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition

Who is Clara Lemlich?

Well…..the Greta Thunberg of the 1900’s?

Let’s just say, She had something to say! Learn about her!
