POSTPONED – A Call to Action: Neighbors Creating Sanctuary
March 29, 2020 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
“An optimist is a person who sees only the lights in the picture, whereas a pessimist sees only the shadows. An idealist, however, is one who sees the light and the shadows but in addition sees something else: the possibility of changing the picture, of making the lights prevail over the shadows.” -Felix Adler

The news about immigration these days is awful. Let us be optimists, and see what we can do, in our own neighborhoods to help immigrant families. As New Yorkers, we value living in a vibrant and diverse community. What can we do to protect that?
Come join Ethical NYC and Action Potluck/Sanctuary NYC to hear how one community in Washington Heights came together to make their neighborhood a true sanctuary for immigrant families living in their community. Learn how simple little actions can make a difference in the lives of neighbors seeking asylum and living under the fear of I.C.E.
Come learn about:
· The current crisis for immigrant families
· What neighbors and local houses of workshop are doing to make our neighborhoods sanctuaries
· How you can make a difference in the lives of neighbors seeking asylum.
Who we are: A Coalition of Faith Communities & Local Activists
We believe that if our country will not be a sanctuary, and our state will not, then we will make our neighborhoods safe for all of us, one by one. Action Potluck/Sanctuary Neighborhoods in Washington Heights, New York City, is a coalition of grassroots activists in collaboration with our local Houses of Worship in an effort to support families and keep our diverse communities whole. The situation is constantly changing, but our goal is clear: to provide direct support to harmed families.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” ― Martin Luther King Jr., Letter from the Birmingham Jail
ACTION POTLUCK in Washington Heights, NYC is a coalition of grassroots activists who are working with local houses of worship working to keep our diverse communities safe and whole. Because if our country will not be a sanctuary, and our state will not, then we will have to make our neighborhoods safe for all of us, one by one.
