Among the many wonderful organizations that Ethical NYC partners with is:
LEARN, LEAD, SERVE, INC. With them, we host an annual commemoration of the Gandhi-King Season for Nonviolence. This year’s event was wonderful and for those who may have missed it…. put it on your radar for next year! There are opportunities for Ethical Members to join the organizing of this event, which begins in January each year. If this strikes your interests, make note and feel free to contact Audrey Kindred, at akindred@nysec.org to say so!
Among the many things that happened on this day, here is a peek:
About 400 youth from ages 8-18 filled Adler Hall, and brought to the stage performances of songs, bands, dances, spoken word, stepping….
Admiration and gratitude to the educators from all 5 boroughs who brought their students here!
The collaborative dynamic duo of social justice educators Lindy Crescitelli and Dr. Shawn Landry who lead this endeavor, brought together a mighty team of collaborators, and hosted an outstanding day of dynamic and educational presentations.
Honor to their leadership, for they have carry forth a deeply valuable legacy — now into its 27th year! Also honor to technical director, Dominique McDuffy Turner and videographer Shefik Macauley and the behind the scenes team of organizers.
A lifetime achievement award honored the amazing civil rights icon, educator, and performer Angeline Butler. Not only did she grace the stage with wonderful poems and song, she brought together a panel of her fellow civil rights demonstrators, creating an amazing and vivid window into the risks and courage underlying a commitment to the vision of nonviolence. This dignified and outstanding panel included: Murial Tillinghast (an Ethical Culture luminary who hails from the Brooklyn campus!), Dorothy Zellner, and Ed Geffner.
Great honor to these examples of deep powerful humanity at work!
Keynote Speaker, Walter Naegle, beloved surviving partner of the late and great Bayard Rustin, gave an warm and insightful view into the organizing architect of the famous March on Washington.
Thank you Mr. Naegle! What a light on history to understand things from behind the scenes.
Dr. Arun Gandhi‘s life in its wholeness was honored. As the grandson of Mohandas Gandhi, he shared his childhood stories with us at Ethical in the last year of his life, on his grandfather’s birthdate, Oct. 2, 2022. We are honored to invite you to listen to his rich stories, from our Ethical archive.
Infinite gratitude and honor to beloved Dr. Arun Gandhi!

She led the world-wide Flag Ceremony, activating all present to bring peace blessings to every land on earth, through the mantra sung by the lovely Michelle DellaFave, “May Peace prevail on earth!”
Thank you to Fumi and her good friend Becky Suzik for coming all the way from the Carolinas to bring this beautiful experience to us.

Thank you for sharing this vision!
Many brilliant organizations came to share their invitations toward civic minded opportunities with teens.
Thanks to Encampment for Citizenship, YVote, Rhizome, Transportation Alternatives and Fridays for Future.
The season for non-violence is a vision created collaboratively by the Gandhi and King families, to bring the study of nonviolence forward, for new generations. It is a season between the dates of Jan. 30 and April 4, the assassination dates of two mighty leaders of nonviolent revolution. This year the event took place on March 20th.
