Lunchtime Roundtable: Issues Worth Talking About – Racism in America: 1619-Today – The History

December 5, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

This is a big topic in a short month.  If you can only read and consider some of the pieces, you’re still welcome to attend the discussion.  Most readings are from The 1619 Project, published in August’s New York Times Magazine.  It is a deeply research and widely collaborative effort.

This week’s readings:

The History

The 1619 Project.  A Brief History of Slavery That You Didn’t Learn in School, Mary Elliott and Jazmine Hughes. NYT Magazine, 8/19/19

The 1619 Project.  America Wasn’t a Democracy Until Black Americans Made It One,  Nikole Hannah-Jones. NYT Magazine, 8/14/19

Bring your lunch and join members and others for engaging conversation. Folders with relevant articles are available from Maggie Determann in the Membership office.
