Dr. Cheryl Kunis: ‘Beware of The Medical-Industrial Complex: Resisting the Monetization of Our Health Care System’

March 30, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The United States has the worst healthcare system among our peer countries. Why? Because our medical care, and the insurance we rely on to pay for it, have become massive businesses—that are only growing larger.

That medical-industrial complex now has its sights set on Medicare, and many Americans don’t realize it. Their latest efforts are called Direct Contracting Entities and ACO Reach. But these companies’ plans go far beyond just Medicare, and threaten Americans of all ages.

By working together, we can stop these companies from monetizing every last bit of medical care in the United States. Join the New York Society for Ethical Culture’s Ethical Action Committee at this free educational webinar to learn what you can do to fight back.

About Our Speaker: Dr. Cheryl Kunis

Cheryl L. Kunis, M.D., M.S. strongly believes that medicine is an art, a science, and a humanitarian profession, and should never be a for-profit business run by corporate America. Hoping to reintroduce humanism, morality, and justice into American healthcare, she lectures on bioethical issues in nephrology, the history of medicine, health policy, and healthcare reform.

She is currently Clinical Professor of Medicine Emerita at Columbia University, Adjunct Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and a member of the Mount Sinai Independent Physicians’ Association. She also serves as bioethicist for the Program to Increase Diversity among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research (PRIDE) at NYU and Downstate Medical Centers. Dr. Kunis is a Board Member of Community Impact at Columbia University, winning The Dr. Maurice Russell Award in recognition of her outstanding commitment to public service.

She has been a Board member of Physicians for a National Health Program since 2014, is director of their National Issues Working Group, and received the PNHP Health Justice award in 2021.

Dr. Kunis’ goal is to educate the public and medical professionals to help create an equitable universal healthcare system in the US believing healthcare injustice is the greatest injustice of all.
