Few ideas have shaped the American experiment more deeply than individualism, self-reliance, and the ideal of freedom from government interference. These values helped expand religious liberty, free speech, innovation, and the protection of individual rights, creating extraordinary opportunities for human flourishing. Yet the same traditions can also foster isolation, unchecked inequality, exploitation, and even open the door to authoritarian movements that promise order amid social fragmentation.

This talk explores the double-edged legacy of American freedom and asks a timely question: How do we preserve the liberties that have strengthened our democracy while cultivating the responsibilities and institutions that allow a free society to endure?

About Sunday Platform

Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Humanist philosophy. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
