“Things You Don’t Know About Asylum and Immigration” w/ Michael Barkow

Michael Barkow, an attorney who works pro bono for asylum seekers, will share with us who is really eligible for asylum and the many misconceptions that abound. He will discuss how the Trump administration has altered the playing field and what a caring government could lawfully do for refugees who not qualify for asylum along with personal stories of people who were recently granted asylum.
Michael Barkow is an attorney with Manatt, Phelps & Phillip. For the past 16 years he has represented asylum seekers from Asia, Africa, Europe and South/Central American who have suffered persecution for their political views, their religion, or for their membership in the LGBTQ community. He serves as pro bono counsel for the New York Legal Assistance Group, Immigration Equality, and Human Rights First.
