Young Ethical Explorers Intergenerational Gathering: “Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness” with Author Anastasia Higginbotham

March 6 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us for this author talk and reading by Anastasia Higginbotham of her most recent book, Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness.

Kirkus Reviews says Not My Idea is “A necessary children’s book about whiteness, white supremacy, and resistance… Important, accessible, needed.”

The New York Times describes it as providing “an honest explanation about how power and privilege factor into the lives of white children, at the expense of other groups, and how they can help seek justice.”

School Library Journal writes that Not My Idea “empowers kids to seek an education in both white supremacy and those who have always fought against it—including some white people.”

Anastasia Higginbotham is a speechwriter, self-defense teacher, and social justice advocate as well as an author. Her Ordinary Terrible Things children’s book series launched in 2015. Higginbotham’s books demonstrate a way for kids to cope with change and loss by making meaning out of whatever broken, ragged, or unraveling life circumstances they face. Her work has been featured in The Believer, The New York Times, Huffington Post, Women’s Media Center, Ms., Bitch, The Sun, The Women’s Review of Books, and in anthologies.
