Film Focus: Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (Online)

Starring Sidney Poitier, Kathryn Hepburn, and Spencer Tracy, with Hepburn’s niece, Katharine Houghton, this was one of the very few films of the time to depict interracial marriage in a positive light. When it premiered in 1967, Variety reviewer A.D. Murphy wrote, “Problem: how to tell an interracial love story in a literate, non-sensational, and balanced way. Solution: make it a drama with comedy.” You decide how much is drama, how much comedy, how much romance, and how much is credible.
