Ethics and the Theater: ‘The Who & The What’ by by Ayad Akhtar

October 28, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Our long-running staged reading and discussion series continues with The Who and The What by Ayad Akhtar:

Pakistani-American Zarina has married a man chosen for her by her conservative Muslim father, Afzal. Luckily, the couple love each other, so everyone is happy—until Zarina’s novel is published. A nontraditional exploration of women and Islam, it infuriates Afzal and forces the entire family to confront the beliefs that define and divide them.

Directed by Katie McHugh and performed by Zaineb Leila, Kannan Menon, Will Poost, and Saisha Talwar.

Playwright Ayad Akhtar is the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. He has written Junk (Lincoln Center, Broadway; Kennedy Prize for American Drama, Tony nomination); Disgraced (Lincoln Center, Broadway; Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Tony nomination); The Who & The What (Lincoln Center); and The Invisible Hand (NYTW; Obie Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Olivier, and Evening Standard nominations.)

After the play, we’ll moderate an open discussion about the ethical issues raised and explored in the work. Produced by Patricia Bruder Debrovner.

Matinee encore on the following Sunday, 1:00-3:00pm.

Members $5, Guests $10 (at door)
