Leader’s Lunchtime Roundtable: Science vs. Ethics (Hybrid)

March 16, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Bring your lunch and join Leader Dr. Nori Rost and members for an engaging round-table discussion on the issues of the day and recommended readings.

This week:

David Sabatini was a respected researcher focusing untangling the cellular mysteries critical in the study of neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, diabetes, and aging. A Nobel prize was potentially in his future. All that came crashing down when he was accused of sexual harassment, bullying, and creating a toxic work environment. He was dismissed from his position at the prestigious Whitehead University in Boston in 2021 and has been unable to land a new position due to this controversy. Now 2 donors are funding $5 million each a year for 5 years to establish a new research lab for him to continue his work. Should the importance of his research take precedence over his unethical behavior?
